I was one of the four Land Rover owners that helped dig and pull him out. From what he stated, the tow truck driver quoted him $150 to show up and $75 in 1/2 hour increments, $150 an hour. It took three hours of digging and another three hours of pulling before we extracted him. It would have cost him well over $1000 to extract a truck that was toast, electrics were shot, etc.

His cost after fellow Rover owners helped him: $0. Oh, wait he did buy two of them sandwiches and coffee.

That tow truck driver is an opportunistic vulture. He should be an attorney.

One thing I've learned is that no matter how good a setup you have, if you lack experience, you're bound to get stuck. And when you get stuck, it helps to have friends and/or membership to a club. I would have assisted in a recovery regardless of whether the truck was a Rover or not.

Rest assurred if it had been a Hummer, it would have been even harder to get out. Is it all fixed yet?

Nah, I never got my shovel back. It would cost more to drive up there than to go to Home Depot and get a new one!

From what I understand, the Disco is a total loss. This is due to all electrics having been submerged under wanter and in mud for several hours. He tried to start it, but to no avail. In the pics, you can see that the inside of the vehicle had water up to the windows. I wish they had taken pics when all you could see was the some of the roof and the snorkel. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

When you Southern California guys get together to hit a trail, I'd love to join you. I have the Disco, but would probably drive my Defender. I bet the andkon fool would just love me!

BTW, what were the circumstance under which that Hummer was stuck and stranded?

Expensive stuck...yes, I've had one of those. Lets see, H2 stuck in about 32" of muddy water for 4 hours = $2500.00 repair bill. Evap tank above gas tank let water into fuel system (blown injectors, fuel pump, lines etc). Be careful or get the hell out QUICK!!!
