View Full Version : FULL RECLINE FRONT SEAT MOD

finbox

I was PISSED that my 2004 H2 would not let me recline the front seats.

I surf with a long board and I could not put the board in my h2 because the seats did not recline, huge pain in the ass (can't lock the board up hate straps on top , etc.)

When you take the cover off move the seat so you can see how it works.
the collar is a position stop.

This will take you about ten minutes.

1. take off the lower seat side covers, 4 screws, move the seat up to make it easier to remove
2. cut the "collar" on the worm gear (ONE CUT) with a dremel so it has a break in it (looks like a "C" instead of an "O")
3. use channel locks and twist the collar back on the worm gear.
4. replace cover.
5. get laid, Carry surfboard, long lumber, fishing pole, etc:excited:
6. it is reversable to the stock setting.

Thanks Fin, there are a few old posts asking if anyone had a DIY answer to this issue. You're the first! I'm going to take a look at doing this to my truck over the weekend. :beerchug:

Guys, you can do the Mod faster than I can take the covers off and take pics etc.

Take the side cover off and you will SEE what I'm talking about. It is easy.

Move the seat bottom all the way up to help get the side cover off

I used a 2 inch cutting wheel on my drimal tool

awesome finbox, thank you very much!

It is as easy as he says. I didn't have the dremel tool so I used a small handheld hacksaw and cut it kind of diagonally. As soon as it was cut all the way through, it is a matter of just turning the screw back with a set of pliers. Here is a pic with the cover removed. The screw is just above and to the left of the red wire...

Wasn't really a big priority and most here don't surf.:clapping:

We don't really have a big list of gripes on the H2. Not like H3's curse.:OWNED:

That's where we kept our (I'm sure most here with kids.)emergency diaper when our kids were in diapers. That or the glove box.:D

I still have the one H2Rocks left on our windshields in Moab.:giggling:

I haven't been this excited about a mod since the reclining rear seat mod.:beerchug:

We're the lucky few who got our hands on those parts for the reclining rear seat. :clapping:

Family goes to Japan twice a year. I picked it up when we went there 2 years ago. I wonder if it had some liability issues.

I just did the mod on my 07. The PS seat will touch the rear seat when down all teh way now. The DR seat will only go a little further than it did before.

The mod is simple!!!!! The hardest part about it is to get the plastic covers back on. Make sure you have the seat bottom tilted up and back all the way. Than a little muscle and it slides back into place.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT MOD!!!!!!!

By the directions posted, I was under the impression he'd backed the collar up a certain distance from it's original location. So, you just cut yours and pulled it completely off?

I don't think it makes a difference. IMO if you have a dremel completly cutting it off would be easier than backing it up but if you're cutting it with a hack saw backing it up would be easier than completly cutting it off.

After just removing the collar completely, I can answer my own question:

If the seat is in its forward-most position, reclining the seat fully will cause the forward end of the "worm gear" to bind up against part of the seat frame. It doesn't seem to pose any real issue, but the frame will flex a bit under that pressure.
