View Full Version : Question on mpg

Okay, I'm bad at math. We're going almost 400 miles to Tampa for our trip tomorrow. So if the tank is 32 gallons...I got that part. What kind of mpg are you all getting on the hwy or interstate? I'm an incessant list maker so I have everything down like parking, hotel, spending money, food, gas and the gas part is where I just want to make sure of an idea to write down. :) We'll be gone a week to the Caribbean and I'll miss y'all. I've gotten pretty attached to this forum.:grouphug:
You won't make it on one tank.
Also, the last gallon and a half or so isn't useable. When the "Range" says "Low", get gas. You have about 2-3 gallons TOTAL left, so there's 1 1/2 - 2 gallons of useable fuel left.

Thank you so much. That gives me a good idea somewhat. I figure about $300 in gas. :)

400 miles.....30 gallons (dont want to use the unusable)....13.3 miles to the gallon.....you will make it on one tank.......they are just saying that because in a 6400 lb truck we dont like to run them that low....

13.3 miles to the gallon.
13.3 MPG?
Do you drive 40 MPH everywhere you go?
I'm not even close to that! If I'm lucky I get 10 MPG
But $300.00 is much more than you need for gas
600 Miles @ 10 MPG = 60 Gal
60 Gal @ $3.25 a Gal = $195.00
Gas Budget = $300.00
--
Actual Gas = $195.00
-----------------------------------------
Leaves $105.00 balance to buy me a present :D

Yeah but that's coming and going. So, 400 miles almost to Tampa. Then we come home next weekend, so another 400 miles. 800 total almost. :) Alas, no presents.

I'm getting 8 and change. Conservatively, that's 100 gallons, round trip. At $3.25, thats $325 bucks. So your original estimate is not unreasonable. Need some $ for chewing gum & Diet Pepsi!

Have a safe trip here, I live on Harbour island, will watch your ship go past!

By the way, 87 octane is running $2.99 a gallon here in Tampa. If you got nav, it's at the corner of Kennedy and Boulevard, about a mile from the cruise ship dock.

No, they're saying that because most of us don't get 13.3 miles to the gallon.
Nor 12.3
Nor 11.3
Nor 10.3
Nor 9.3
However, I do break the 8.3 on trips.... I do so much better around town than on the highway.

This being your first trip, I'd overbudget. As you can see, the gas mileage varies. With my stock H2, I was getting 15 mpg on highway. With a lift and 37s, I get 9.

Well, we're in Tampa. We've put in a little over $100 in gas but we're not empty now either, nor were we when we started. I think another $100 or so on the way home should do it but then again, I suck with numbers. I'll have to get the final tally after we're all done and I can do things at my desk, etc. :)

Not necessarily true. I've gone over 400 miles on a tank before and not run it dry.
Karsun, make sure that your tires are properly inflated(40-43psi) before heading out. Also, be sure to fold your mirrors in - you'll get another 5-6mpg.;)

Numbers don't lie. On the highway, I usually run 75-80 and will average roughly 8.6-8.9
38's with 4.56 gears. Supercharger doesn't help gas mileage.
In town, I usually get 9.5-9.9 with my usual heavy foot. If I drive like a little ol' lady, I could get 11-12 mpg but then I'd have little ol' ladies in wheelchairs passing me.
Tis okay, I didn't buy it for gas mileage....

Before the weather got cold I was around 12MPH combined (I dont see much of a difference between around town and highway unless Im doing 65MPH or less and then it may jump into the 13's). Since it got cold its down into the high 11's (11.7-11.8) but it sits idle more for warming up.

dam dude...at least look at what you write before you hit the submitt button....100 divided by 30 is 3.33 a gallon....also did you read the part that said "wasn't empty when we got there, wasn't empty when we left....sounds like it was close to a tank...but other than that, good job:excited:

Well you have made it pretty clear, I guess you do get 15 MPG :perfect10s: Good for you! But didn't someone from Tampa say, in this thread, that gas in Tampa was less than $3.00 a gal ? If so your math is off by at least 10%
Either way I find it very hard to beleive that you or anyone else get anything even close to 15 MPG in an H2.
You can claim it but I simply don't beleive it. My freind gets 13 real world MPG in his Durango so IMO getting 15 MPG in a HUMMER is impossible unless of course you installed The Tornado :jump:

We're back and while I have no clue what the mpg is, nor do I mind either way....here's what we used in gas charges. We put in a total of $268 with gas running anywhere from $2.97 to $3.49 in one place. We drove almost 800miles total and when we started had half a tank and now that we're home we have half a tank. I honestly can't complain. I also didn't get it for good fuel economy. It drove great and the only thing that happened was that we picked up a bolt in a tire somewhere on the way back but it's not leaking so we'll take it in Monday to have it removed and all. Seems no one would touch it in Live Oak cause it had after market tires and rims. Haven't heard that one here locally but whatever. Thanks for all the helpful information. :)

I am usually between 11.5 and 12 mpg. I have done the Tampa to Panama City trip a few times. can't remember, but I usually stop for gas.
Mileage is going to vary greatly with aftermarket wheels/tires.... I usually stay around 75mph on the interstate.
