I went to the Jeep dealer today.

I had to go to the Jeep dealer today, they also sell Dodge there. They have a brand new state of the art alignment rack there (the only one around here) that is capable of aligning 38 inch tall 14 1/2 inch wide tires.

Man, I couldn't believe it. The JK is probably Jeep's (and Chrysler's) best selling vehicle right now. These guys only have 8 on the lot. Figures....there are dozens of vehicles of every other type there (not moving) and only a handful of Jeeps......no wonder that company is in so much trouble.

I can't believe that the Hummers are always getting compared to Jeeps......they are both 4x4's but beyond that they have very little in common. Those Wranglers are small, even the Unlimited's. I know that they are capable, and can be made even more so, but damn.

These are not in competition with H2's. I don't know why so many people want to compare Wranglers with H2's. Ability OK, everything else......Hell no.

I get the ability thing but damn.....if I was going strictly for off road, I'd build a 4 link, coil over, Dana 60 TJ, or a buggy (to tow down with my H2). :D

I get why others have done the JK thing (have a couple local friends that have), my dual purpose rig might not be able to do everything the built JK can on the rocks, but damn sure is more comfortable for the 90% driving around the city that I do. :cool:

I'm not being a dick, I'm always cool to the Jeepers but, that Wrangler is not in competition with the H2.

I would have to agree with you. I just left the dealer and drove a 4dr Rubi to the shop. I can;t see trading the H2 for a JK as a daily driver. I can see doing it as a kick a$$ off road vehicle though. Since I won;t have more than one vehicle....the Jeep won;t win for me.

Actually you are missing THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE. It is so obvious when you go offroading.

I have had both Jeeps and H2s. The Jeep wins offroad in some circumstances. For example, try to crawl between large boulders. The narrow guage Jeep can do it, the H2 CAN NOT. Ditto for narrow trails between trees.

The H2 is good in open terrain. Once it closes in, to bad for your H2! I have been on trails in a stock Jeep that the H2 could only dream of. With a inch or two to spare between trees.

My point is: Sometimes Jeep wins big time. It can go where your H2 can't.

But, ditto for your H2 with the wider stance and longer wheelbase. It can span crevaces better than the Jeep, so may be better in Moab on certain runs.

Each vehicle is built for a completely different purpose. You can not compare the two at all.

Oh yeah, the short wheel Jeeps drive like cr*p. The longer cherokees are smooth.

From what I have seen on the trail, it comes down to this: At the end of the day there are a few narrow places a jeep can go that a Hummer can't and there are a few places where the wider track Hummer can go where the jeep cant.

I will also go as far as this, when comparing stock suspensions of both - the H2 can support 37" tires and that capability alone puts it out front where a jeep will not be able to follow on severe terrain

He just spent 8 lines comparing the two, then said "you can not compare the two at all". I thought that was what I implied.

I must have missed the "Biggest Difference" point of his. That should have been obvious to me after offroading with JK's and TJ's and YJ's.

I originally mentioned ability in my post. I also mentioned that Jeeps were small.

I see why Jeeps can be built so capable on rocks, they are small, light, and can be built stronger with loads of articulation. They also can tip over easy. Give and take.

The original point was that the vehicles are really not in the same class. The H2 doesn't compete with the Wrangler directly. Many people seem to want to compare Jeeps most competent wheeler (built up at that), against all the Hummers.

My point was that I am happy with my one vehicle multiple use situation. I'm sure there are Jeepers that are just as happy, but the vehicles are not in the same class.

Tomp, the JK's are running 37's with relatively small lifts.

The mistake must be mine, I keep hearing about how this Jeep or that Jeep can outperform my H2 or even an H1. That is true in some cases no question, but the Jeeps that outperform me that far off road, sure isn't gonna be better on my daily commute.
