A local street savage stuck his screw driver under my driver's door handle surround and tore everything up in an attempt to steal my 08 SUT. The door lock cylinder is missing. Does anyone know if a street savage can use a lock cylinder to make a duplicate key?

The cylinder decoded would only give the last 5 codes of a 10 cut keycode. The first 9 are used for the ignition. Unfortunately, whoever stole the cylinder can get a door/glovebox key cut at any locksmith and can then get into your vehicle at their leisure. Have the truck recoded.

Thanks, guys. The body shop found the lock cylinder down in the door during repairs, so this is not going to be a problem. Dude's going to have to try to steal it the next time with the same screwdriver he used the first time.

I know this is a really old post, but I just had the same thing happen to my truck, when i brought the H2 to the dealer they found they tried to pry off the the rear hatch "surround first" I didnt even notice that. How the hell can they open the door by just popping the lock out? seems like it should be a little harder than that!
and the beauty is, my damn crappy stock alarm didnt even go off because i think i have a faulty ignition switch! UGHH

This is a known, huge flaw with the H2. Very easy to "pop" the lock with screw driver under drivers door crappy plastic handle bucket. My wife's 2005 H2 broken into this way. My 2007 H2 attempted.
Heck, I even rented an H2 from Hertz in Atlanta, and notice the same door handle damage before renting it!
There is an after market piece that can be installed to prevent opening of the door, however, you will still get the same damage when they try.
I have switched to the Chrome handle buckets to discourage anyone from trying. For some reason, the chrome looks like "unbreakable metal" to the crooks and they don't try.
GM knew the problem, and changed the handles on the Cadillac Escalade. I was very disappointed to see that they did not change the H2 starting with the 2008 models.
Good luck.
