What is a good ring and pinion ratio to run with 40" tires? Any suggestions on where to buy from? Thanks!

For 40's i would run 4.88 and you can get them from trailduty.com

I agree.
When I ran 38's, I installed 4.56 gears. The whole point was to keep the same end gear ratio.
4.10's-33" = 4.56's-38"
So, I'd try 4.88's.... besides, you don't want anything lower, it doesn't make for good daily driving.

Why did they do this? Due to the 6speed trans or extra hp?
I wonder how 4.56's would be with 37's on that truck...or if it's even needed on that engine/trans setup.

Both reasons
If it were me, I would be putting in a front locker and swapping the gears for the 37s. I would at least use 4.10s and you should be able to find a good deal on them as several 03-07 H2s have changed out their gears and will have the 4.10s to sell cheap. I have a set you can have for $100 plus shipping.
