I know I do every friggan chance I get. I was at gray rock with the Hummer Club a few weeks ago. As a matter of fact the Hummer Club has an event going on right now at Kinzalow in Dayton TN. I'm pretty bummed I did not make it out there myself........:(

Hey I know the H2 can make it on nearly all of those trails...1 BIG difference...if you wheel it for a few years hard it will be a twisted, tin canned, warped bucket of bolts! Trust me you should have seen my frame and underside after just 2.5 years of wheeling the h2. Kinzalows will eat any truck but the H1's seem to handle the constant abuse best. The rocks are sharp...tires, rims, bodies just get mauled.
Am General has been sending guys down to the event since the 90's for r&d and a VP told me that some findings have made there way into current HMMWV's etc.
There is a guy we wheel with a Kinzalows who has been wheeling his H1 extremely hard since it was new in 93. Still going strong....Any Jeep or other civillian type truck would have been trash in 5 years or less for sure. There are trails here such as dolly's squeeze that no h2 has attempted. You guys should come next year and give it a shot...But don't expect to be looking pretty afterwards, you will get body damage. :D
BTW your pics look great and I hope to wheel with you someday..I still plan to go to Moab one of these years.
RuggedH2
05-20-2009, 12:38 PM
I watched you move from the H2 to the H1. I watched the wheelin' you did in both rigs. All good stuff no question.
I have wheeled with H1's out here and I'm sure under different conditions and terrain than what you guys might consider standard fare out there.
I've seen my H2 walk right over obstacles that H1's have struggled and worked hard to get through. It was an eye opener and I suspect most people have no idea that an H1 can be outdone by an H2. I've seen it too many times to count. The driver is another big factor.
I have wheeled this truck hard for two years, I already do have body damage on the H2..... Most is superficial though. The truck also has 4.88 gears, with front and rear lockers. Custom suspension arms. Rancho lift with 38X14.50X17 KM2s on beadlocked wheels.
I would love to make the trip to Kinzalows with you guys. Big sacrifice would be required though. It's far away and I have two teenage boys in competition sports, Lacrosse and Baseball, and a little girl in Dance. There is much to miss right now.
Keep posting the good pics........ I'll get more up from Moab.
Who knows..... these things might become illegal or collectors items the way the governments going.

Hey Alan...I am seeing these same things with my rig. The entire frame area surrounding the Idler Pivot Assembly was flexing like rubber. It even had an extra Cognito gusset and still was flexing. I ended up correcting the problem by extending the gusset all the way to the front round cross member.
I had to purchase a mig and plasma cutter to keep this thing wheeling and prevent it from a complete disaster.
The driver is another big factor
I have also out wheeled or equaled every H1 I have come encountered with (this is not many). I concur that people don't know how to drive them. It takes a certain level of finesse in any vehicle. Granted I have dual lockers and most H1s dont.
Hopefully I can meet up with you in Moab in October. It would be really cool to finally get to wheel with some other modded H2s such as yours and Summit's and with someone not afraid to drive it like it was meant to be driven.

After wheeling both pretty hard (east cost forrests and rocks only) my opinion is that the h2 can make it nearly everywhere the H1 can besides deep fording and big ledges (h2 dosent have the approach angle). I could barely make it up that waterfall in the photo. Im not sure if the h2 could w/o stacking rocks. I have the MM winch so about 72 deg approach angle.
Geared hubs, and instant torque from the diesel also add to far more traction from the start. Which leads to less wheel spin and sliding around.
H2 beats the h1 in comfort by miles and people carrying capacity.
Heck the h2 will fit 37's in stock form...but the h1 will fit 38.5's...and with a 2" body lift 41's..no gearing or parts upgrades required!!
As far as an h2 outwheeling an h1, tsall driver if that were the case.
Also h1 is easier to see out of (opentop at least vs h2sut), especially the back, and the h2 will definatley flip quicker on a side slope, and h1 feels more nimble when weaving through trees etc.
That all bieng said, I think we could get h2's through most of the h trails at kinzalows, we just need some h2's to come out next year who are willing to try.
Again, I've never been to moab in either rig, so I dont know how they compare out there, but I would be very hard pressed to belive there is an instant I could not follow and H2 out there.

My frame was toast, my crosmebers were literally hanging by a thread and dog eared (especially the t case and tranny one). Similar issue w idler area, etc. Went through three stock sets of skid bars/plates, etc.
H1 after harder wheeling, dents in the front of the control arms, thats it.
Both eat idler and pitman arms each trip and require allignment.

This little trick can be tight maneuvering for an H1.
Pics don't do it justice. You really have to see it to understand the challenge. Many H1's have caved in a corner.

Not sure if you noticed but that one pic of you sliding over that boulder at Krocks is on the HXC home page. You have to wait for the slide show to get around to your rig. Looks like there are two of my SUT there also. That was a fun trip that resulted in many great pics.

That was a fun trip that resulted in many great pics.Still bummed that when I (finally) managed to get over this giant wall with my driver tire so high up in the air that the K-Rock guide could walk under to pose -- was of course the exact moment the rig tipped over the center of gravity and came crashing down -- resulting in scattering people and NO photos... :crying: :D
Oh yes, Escalator. My wife wanted to do that one so bad when we got there she grabbed a passenger and drove on up without a spotter. Then the front CV snapped at the top and the right rear slipped into a hole.

Didn't know your wife also had an H3. Trail Duty will be releasing some more H3 components in the next few weeks to include:
-Matching rear 5125 series Bilstein shocks (matches the Cognito-Bilstein 5125 series shock). There will be two options available to accomodate different rear suspension setups.
-H3 extended shackles. These will be the only H3 shackles available that are bolt-on right out of the box with the exception of the Samco shackles which are way overpriced. Samco shackles are also too tall for most people and impede departure angle. TD shackles will have two sizes available.
