Functional H2 Hood Vent (Question) (Rain)

So I bought a strut grille kit and the hood vent is functional with openings.
My question is: Should I take some precaution due to rain?

Or will the underhood lining cover it? (Not sure as this is my first h2 and had it for about 3 weeks now)

if you're talking about the hood insulation underneath I'm sure over time the rain will ruin it. Most hoods that have large functional vents have a tray underneath to catch the rain but still allow heat to escape. You could always try to fab up something like that.

Thanks I tried searching for some photos on the net on how to maybe customize it due to water & so far have not found anything.

I agree, you should definitely take some precautions against water damage...
...I just can't believe that it wouldn't come with something for inside the hood.

I agree, I mean even if it was something like a shallow black Rubbermaid container bolted on with stand offs and a hose attached to drain the water. Something could easily be fabbed up.

Agreed. Call Strut and ask them if you're missing a peice. Or, are there installation instructions? Would the strut part fit over top of the stock part? That would solve the problem.

It comes with instructions. The oem hood vent has to be cut out in order to add this one.

i agree.. the OEM is just really held in place by the handles which are bolted to the hood. you most likely have to cut the sheetmetal that is under the OEM vent.

i think there will be little you can do for water getting in.
If its not included, i would also add some thin wire mesh to help catch leaves and large debris from getting in the engin compartment.

so out of curiousity, what is your intention for this?

If it is just to get air int he engine compartment.... MHO this seems like a waste of time for the $$$ and time. you could just cut the OEM hood and have just as good of a product with same results.

If this is to increase performance... you will need to make some more modifications. You will need a setup similiar to the old hoodscoops from back in the 60/70's. the schoop would go in to the engin compartment, but it would have a shroud that would enclose the air filter/Carb, so all the fresh air was directed right in to the carb.
You will need to fashion something to the same effect, but going either to your filter, or right to the MAF...

LOL...you're prolly right.

Luckily his rig is gonna be street bound cause it'd really suck on the trail when that wave of muddy water washed up over the hood and all them movin' motor parts get all wet'n dirty.

It's just for show. I have a 96 impala ss & a 06 range rover supercharged I drive daily.

Always wanted a hummer for years and decided this summer I would have one and customize it for show.

I have had my h2 for about 3 weeks now. (Not going to fully drive it until it is completely customized to how I want it)

There has got 2 b a drain pan underneath the oem hood louvre. It has a 1/2 inch drain hole on the left and right front sides of the oem louvre. I would do as the instructions instruct and cut the oem vent but nothing underneath.NO SHEETMETAL!!!!! If there wasn't an oem drain pan underneath or hood vents our "HUMMER" stamped hoodliners would look like crap by now and my liner is mint for a 2005. No water stains at all.

I don't think our hoods are metal at all. I think they're fiberglass and plastic, and the drain pan is probably the whole hood itself. Do not go for the "See through the hood" effect, it will only make your "Show truck engine" look like crap anyhow due to all the dust and rain. It will still look bada55 when the hood is closed and you can see through the spaces in between the vents opposed to what the oem looks like. When the hood is close the engine compartment is so sealed that you wouldn't be able to see the engine through the vents anyhow due to the darkness inside. Goodluck bro, I respect your dedication to making your truck exactly how you saw it in your mind when you decided to purchase one. There are so many HUMMERs out there with the same mods as the next one that drive by and aren't really a stand out. I'm actually looking for some Strut Chimney vents ( Mesh Style ).
