Just wondering how deep the the H-2 can actually go in the snow before it gets STUCK. I live on the Cape and we just got blasted with 30+ inches over the weekend. I would love to figure it out on my own but I don't want to go through the embarassment of digging it out. Mainly because I don't want people putting the H-2 down or laughing at it. Which of the different 4 wheel drives would you use due to the amount of snow that you have. Whats the deepest amount of snow that you have had your H-2 in without getting stuck. I want to have a good time and enjoy the fun in the snow but I am a little hesitant. Thanks for all your imput.

Well, I live here in Northern NJ and we got about 14 inches of snow. After the plows came through the parking lot, there were nice 6'+ snow banks. All I can say is that I wish I had my camera. I drove right through them! I had a blast. The front end, hood and roof were caked with snow. I had about 10 friends watching, and they were amazed. I put the truck in 4 Hi Lock with TC2, for more wheel spin. Worked great. I will do it again soon and this time I will have a camera.

Define "STUCK". I do have a winch, so several feet of snow in the past has caused little problem.

Wow that question could have alot of different answers depending on such factors as slope, pack, underlyling terrain etc.etc.

As far as getting stuck and having others make fun of you who cares. Everyone is going to laugh when you get stuck no matter what you drive and if you dont get stuck your not trying hard enough http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

As for the snow subject , it all depends on the type of snow, the type of tires (AND psi in them) and underlying surface(i.e. asphalt, dirt, ice, etc..).

I have no idea. When it snows I bundle the little truck up and hide it in the garage. Afraid some idiot will hit me. Next time we get some good snow, though, I think I am going out to rescue some folks. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

It depends on the type of snow and the underlying ground.

One of the recent AZHOG trips took us on a Forest Service road that only had about 10 inches of snow with a ton of ice underneath it. It rendered 3 H1's and 1 H2 in what I would call a "seriously stuck" mode. It took winches to get us out.

That's one of the things about snow and water. Sometimes you never know what's under the snow, and other times you never know how deep the water is.

I'm with You. Do not get much her. 2 to4 inch once or twice but it freezes to ice before it is gone over the next 3 days. She goes in the garage until clear and I drive Silverado. Now if daughter was out or the other need Me I drive it thru a wall to get there. So the peremiters for needing to be out may have to be envoked.

Did anyone have chains on the front and/or rear? I've hunted in Utah in the winter -- -- snow on mud roads. Guys with chains are OK; those without are in ditches.

No. And I wish we did.

We had no idea that there was this much ice. And the Arizona Virtual Jeep Club's trip to the same area did not report ice at all. Their trip was a mere 7 days earlier in the same area.

Which meant that the ice was there and the AZVJC guys didn't hit it, or the 7 days did get ice forming and then snowed over it.

My first experience in snow on mud roads was without chains because I was overconfident in the all-terrain tires on the 4-wheel drive rig I then had. We got stuck. I then put my only set of chains on the front so I would have steering. It was dicey, but we were OK. People with chains on all four tires had no problems.

Also, my chains had those little ice teeth on them [sometimes called V-bars or ice-bars] and it helped a lot.

If you can find a set of chains with side-cams, it makes installation/removal much easier.

I hope this helps keep someone from getting stuck.

We got at least 12 inches of snow in the last snowstorm on Sat. I was out driving around in it before the plows hit the streets. I didn't have any problems at all.

the snow storm last weekend, we had apparently declaired a state of emergency in Morris County, NJ...?...no-one told me...Saturday - Saturday night I was all over the roads, plowed and unplowed, mostly in 4 hi lock & 4 low, no problems what so ever driving in snow from 6"-10" on main roads and hilly roads in developments.

kids were sledding in the streets and didnt expect to see ANY vehicles...there I came by truckin through w/ the H2...lots of surprised faces http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and a big GRIN on my face and the courteous wave!

I drove around just fine in the 33 inches we got. I did get a little caught up in some drifts, but never got stuck.

P.S. I hate snow.

What a bunch of whiners. Let me tell ya, I used to walk to school 24 miles in the snow... barefoot.... with 65lbs of books... uphill both ways... all year long.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Those ice highways are pretty cool. There was a special about them on TLC, or something similar, describing all the precautions taken, construction, traversing, etc.

Some of the areas can't be gotten to by truck until the heart of winter sets in because the roads go over frozen lakes and whatnot, not around.

Here's a pic. Lots of snow in Idaho/Wyoming. Nice and dry. Takes LOTS to get the H2 stuck.
