Melissa and I took a class for off road driving in the H2 this Saturday. Despite all the rain we had a great time and learned a great deal about off road driving technique and the capabilities of the H2. The day was pretty intensive, so we did not get a lotof pics. We started with the training on the instructors off road course which covered everything the H2 was designed to do (Inclines, declines, climbing over obstacles, water, etc.). We got lots of mud training thanks to mother nature. I would like to plan a group event with New England/NY/ Tri-State H2'ers later this summer. So if this stuff looks and sounds interesting to you please let know. Also you can check out there site and maybe schedule a class on your own

This first series was an unplanned winching lesson. Due to the incline, side slope, and slippery mud here there was a chance of sliding into a tree as we went up. Rather than roll the dice we learned how to put that new winch to work.

Here's another lesson. Once in awhile you need to look up. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Very cool, thanks for posting these photos. I'm wondering what you attached the winch to here? Did you loop it around a tree and that back to the tow hook? I'd be interested to do this in the fall.

I think they were both trying to kill off the wifey, as I was driving, and they were spotting. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Z, Good question: there was a tree to the left of Peter in the first shot, we used a pulley and a tree guard for a double-line pull. By the way, also in the first shot was Kevin's fiancee, Sara, who was brave enough to accompany us, and nice enough to bake us cookies, which were all gone by the next day. She is also a "mud chick" and has a Wrangler.
Kevin Leonard was really cool in explaining winching, and creative ways to use it. I can't tell you how much we learned (and had to unlearn) that day -- spotting, safety, using things found around you to get out of a tough spot, log crossing, throttle control, proper gear selection, proper use of all the bells and whistles . . . the list goes on and on. I can't say enough about how much fun we had and how much we learned.
Z, he said you could join us with the Jeep until you get your H2. that is, if the others don't mind! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Okay Brooklyn, I have a question: the pics are terrific and it looks like you guys learned a lot, but how does one take a photo in the middle of all that humidity and rain and look as spotless as you do???? I'm always the chick up to my knees in muck. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Kelley -
Didn't you see me doing all the dirty work in those pictures. I was trekking through the mud while someone was taking it easy on the sideline. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

That's the way you do it, hire a private coach. Smart move, instead of reinventing the wheel on your own. Wonderful photos but I don't see any rain in the photos.

As they always say . . . the couple that posts prolifically to the H2 forum together stays together. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Oh and Kelley -- the jeans hide a lot of mud and my Blunnies are completely covered with it. Just wait til I post proof that I was helping. Kevin has a picture of me pulling the H2 up the hill all by myself!
MAC, rain was off and on all day. Had pretty much ended after our winching lesson.
