Everytime I have installed a performance exhaust systems on my vehicles, I lose performance - mainly low end torque, throttle response and drivability. No one drives around at 5,000 RPM, and this is where the performance is noticed most.

I need an exhaust system that will increase performance without losing my low end torque. The engine in the Hummer is desgned to provide maximum torque at low RPMs to get this heavy vehicle moving.

I have tried differnt brands on every vehicle that I have had and they all do the same thing. I am fed up.

I odered the Corsa Touring series thinking this will add some additional back pressure over this current Gibson exhaust system.

I regret ever removing my stock exhaust as this thing is very sluggish down in the low RPM ranges since I removed the stock exhaust.

Any ideas guys? I am so tired of this marketing crap. All of their dyno charts so gains about 3200 RPM+, but we normally drive much lower than this.

Always look at low end torque for these big rigs.

Can you offer some suggestions as to where to look when looking at exhausts?

Everything else is not worth playing with if you want real gains.

Not sure if it does develop the HP figures they advertise, but I can tell you there definitely is an increase. My SUT used to downshift on a certain highway hill every day on my commute. If it didnt downshift it would slowly drop speed. Now it never downshifts and keeps a constant or slightly increasing speed.

Did you do the install?

Yes Dan, I talked with Steve over there earlier today. Only thing I don't like is that this is a weld in kit intended to be added to your factory exhaust pipes. The muffler shop through away my factory stuff when I installed this crappy Gibson junk exhaust.

That is why I am only replacing mufflers this time... not entire systems/catbacks.

Usually I install anything from long tubes to cat backs... I don't want to lose any low end so a muffler is what is going on this time.

Hey, I have a welder! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I actually had a hard time finding someone to install it. No one wanted to touch a Hummer. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif After about 12 places I found a Midas in a neighboring town to do it. The guy did a nice job. Took his time and made sure all the welds were nice. $130 & took him about 90 minutes.

Do what I did. I had the extreme flow (May have been a bad one) and my performance dropped to zero. It then progressivly got worse and worse until it was scary to drive. Third trip to dealership they found temperature in front of exhaust muffler was off the scale(blockage). It was burning up the sensor. Dealership was nice enough to let me have an old factory setup that they had laying around from anouther exhaust swap out. Never drove better. Remember an exhaust system is almost a quarter of the way to a supercharger. That will be the way I go if I get the performance bug again. Good luck http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You'd pay $1500 for an exhaust? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

What did they say it was clogged with? Packing? Catalytic beads? As far as I know XF doesn't use packing in their systems. Sounds very strange.....

I don't. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Been thinking about buying one and learning how but I can think of a dozen or so other places to practice besides the underside of the SUT. Boom. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's why I didn't do it. If I had a lift I definitely would have. Laying on my back and having hot slag dropping on me doesn't sound appealing. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I bought a small MIG. Its actually a lot of fun! Made my air horn bracket, fixed a broken tool, put together a welder cart, and added some bracing onto the snowblower where it kept bending. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think the dealership wanted 1500 installed for the Corsa when I got my truck. That was in June of 04 though when the corsa was newer. Dealership prices suck. Thats why I tried the extreme flow. I think I paid around 700 dollars for the "performance package" claimed like 45 hp and two more mpg. Sounded good at the time. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Very possible. In their defense I never pursued a warranty issue. Once the truck ran well again I just let it go.

I do not know if it is a regional thing or what. I run a Dynatech stainless header and catback system with true duals all the way out over rear axle. I used super 40 flowmaster mufflers all stainless front to back on the whole system. I saw instant perf. gains. I recommended it to some more and some of them werenot H2 but they all recieved the same improvement. Dynatech is a smaller company and get's overlooked alllot. But, i think guy should give it more of a look and try it. If You look for a performance exhaust shop and not a muffler shop You will receive a different attitude as to why they are doing there job. They are looing to make you run better and sound good. muffler shop is working to quiet you down and do not think thay have anything to do with perf. and that is what you get out of the 2 different cases with exceptions of course.
Try Dynatech. i will never run anything else as long as they do not do something screwy. I love them and it sound perfect. Light till You get on it and then you wil hear it. Freeway nice light tone never bothers anyone that rides. In fact get many good comments about sound on freeway. Now I do not what it will sound like since i had the system sterling coated inside and out by Jet Coat. I hope it does not change sound b ut, it will drop temp. dramatically they told me. Will not melt stuff with headers with treatment.
The Dynatech stainless all the way out was $1450 installed about a year ago.

UPDATE: Installed the Corsa Touring exhaust today and it's much better! Nice sound and got my low RPM torque backhttp://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You get what you pay for I guess....Gibson was the cheapest one available and performed like it!
