Im doing research into the H2 and some other SUV's. I'm looking to buy in the next few weeks and was hoping for some feedback on current owners thoughts about their H2. I will mostly be using it as a really cool grocery-getter and also to scare the volvo/escalade moms in carpool! Any info on your likes/dislikes would be appreciated.

You need to lighten up! Do you not have a sense of humor? Or do you only have one when you are making the jabs? For your information I am not a TROLL, as you so eloquently put it, I'm a mom who does, on occasion, have to go to the grocery store and pick my kids up from school. I don't like driving small vehicles because I like to feel that myself and my family are safe going down the road. I also am used to having vehicles that are unique, and not like every third SUV in the parking lot which is why I like the Hummer. I haul a large horse trailer behind a crew cab. I also on occasion have hauled a boat and a 5th wheel so I think I'm perfectly capable and intelligent enough to drive an H2 which is alot smaller than the truck I have now. All I was looking for was some imformation about the H2 that came from someone other than a salesperson looking for a commision. Thanks for the help Dennis, that was very nice of you.

Christa, I'm going to assume you're not a troll since you didn't come in here bashing the H2. I would honestly go to a local dealer - it doesn't matter which one - and take the H2 on a 24-hour test drive. Go to all the places you would normally go, and see how the truck behaves. I absolutely love my H2 and wouldn't trade it in on anything, but it does have a few things you basically have to "live with." Even tho it costs $50,000+, it's not a luxury vehicle. It rides rough and to me, the interior is rough also. You do have to be careful in heels and skirts - the running boards can get slick when wet, and if you're in a business where you have to take clients out, that can also be a problem. The truck is short, but it's wide and tall - there are several parking decks in my city where the truck won't fit, so I have to park elsewhere and hike often. This may also be a factor in normal parking lots - you may have to park out further than normal if the spaces are tight, or find a spot near a curb you can park half-up on. You also have to be careful in drive-throughs....my H2 will barely squeeze into a space at Sonic, with my mirrors folded in. I've just learned over time where I can and cannot take the truck, and if it's going to be a problem, we take my husband's truck instead.

Other than that, the H2 is a blast to drive. It's a very safe vehicle when driven correctly, and it's nice to know that whatever traffic situation you might encounter, you can probably get out of it with a Hummer. If you do purchase one, I highly recommend getting with a group on here and taking the truck off-road at least once. Nothing extreme, just a good chance to learn what it's capable of so you don't get yourself in a bad situation that you can't get out of. Good luck with your decision.

The only advice I can give you is to beware of the radio reception on the '03 H2's! I have been round and round with my GM dealer (no HUMMER dealer in my neck of the woods!) about the poor reception, to no avail. To give HUMMER the benefit of the doubt, I DO have an appointment with a dealer next week... we'll see!

However, from my post and research here, I find that my problem is obviously a somewhat common one... and evidently the reason for changing to a "whip" style (DRTYFN, don't go off on that one! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif -- NOTE the sarcasm icon...) antenna on the '04 models.

Otherwise, I love my H2, and would find it hard to go back to a smaller SUV... Although, my husband would love to see me drive something that is a bit more fuel efficient -- oh well!

I think you will find that most folks here love there H2's and would not drive anything else even if given a choice.
Sales people can be pushy but the truck sells its self. You either love it or you don't I haven't ran into many people that take a middle ground approach. As you are familiar with larger trucks i.e. your crew cab you are already familiar with blind spots and I suspect know how to deal with them. Because of its width, parking in mall parking spots will be a pain so if that is going to be the H2's primary use, know that you will have door dings within a week, or your going to be doing some hiking. Hopefully not much more will happen, there are stories on this forum from folks who have had negative experiences at the hands of some environmentalist and you live in there backyard so hopefully you will be spared those experiences but you should be aware they do happen.
Develsfans suggestion of taking your H2 out for an off-roading experience is a solid suggestion. It is something that I believe every H2 owner should have to do before being allowed to purchase the rig. At least it should be mandatory in order to retain a drivers license for those who choose to drive the H2. The upcoming trips to Moab would be a great experience for you and you’d get a chance to meet Drty and Dennis. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. The things you've stated are all kinda what I expected. I don't mind hiking a ways in a parking lot. I do that now. I Hate door dings so that really isn't an issue for me. My truck now is also pretty large to fit around tight spots and the turning radius is horrible which is why I prefer to drive my car most of the time though I have heard (from salesman) that the H2 turn capabilities are pretty decent. I havent been off road in a long time, but I think it would be fun to try. My husband had a CJ5 for alot of years and we did do alot of mud running etc. (that was way before kids when getting up early was 10:00 on weekends. I'd pay good money to sleep that late! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)
This would be my daily driver most of the time though I would need it to haul a loaded horse trailer or the boat on occasion, and being able to store things in the back is kinda important to me too. Do any of you have any thoughts on the 3rd row seat and exterior mounted spare vs it being inside? I feel now it would be better to have the spare mounted outside, but is it a hassle to get to the cargo area with it mounted back there? Have any of you towed with it? Also would having a center drop down DVD for the kids interfere with visibility too much? What kind of gas mileage do you actually get in this beast anyways? Sorry about all the questions. my husband gets home on saturday and I want to have my guns loaded with viable reasons why this wouldn't be an impractical choice for me! Hi Christa!

I've driven my H2 for almost 2 years now and I love it. I drove an F350 super cab long bed and let me tell you, this rig is a lot smaller than one of those beasts! The towing capacity of the H2 is not what you are used to either, so a 2 place horse trailer, max.
The spare tire is huge and it takes up all the interior room in the back. The spare tire holder mounted on the swing in back is one option, but I didn't want to have to grab it every time I opened the door. They get super dirty with rain and road grime out here in the NW.
I know a gal that just went up to Fife, WA to buy hers. She had all good things to say about them. The dealership in Portland/Vancouver is changing hands so I can't give a good report on it.

Don't buy the H2 if you are looking for great gas mileage. I think most folks here are getting somewhere between 9-15mpg depending on how they drive and what there doing. Supercharging will help. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Towing, there are several posts here on that subject, take a few minutes and do a search. I am certain you will find the answers to your questions.

3rd row seating. Not practical, most folks have sold there seat, traded it for something or wrapped it in plastic and stuck it in the garage.
Yes it is a pain to have to swing open a tire carrier every time you wish to put something in the back. You could go the route of a Gobi Rack and mount the tire to the roof.

Rear Drop down dvd? Not sure they make a center consol type but they have monitors that fit in the head rest of the drivers seat and passengers seat so the rear passengers can watch dvd's. But yes if you find a drop down unit for the top center console yes it will block what limited visibility you have assuming the tire is mounted on a tire carrier or left in its stock local. If you have more then two kids the H2 probably isn't going to be very practical unless you can get three child seats to fit on the rear fold downs and leave the limited cargo area open by taking the 3rd row seat out.

Resale value; again do a little research you see that some folks are selling there rigs for just about as much as they paid for them. Any vehicle looses its value once you drive off the lot and if this is a major concern consider a lease rather than an outright purchase. Personally I don't see the sense in renting a truck but to each there own some folks like to have the newest, best, biggest whatever so I guess it works for some.

You can certainly find a quality low mileage used H2 just do some looking around and don't buy the first one you come across.

We have the f350 crew cab long box only its also on 38's or 39's (not sure which) with a bunch of lift. It's alot of work to drive and you need a good bounce to get up into it! i'm sure the size of the H2 wont intimidate me at all. We probably will deal through McCann in Fife. I was thinking of an aftermarket larger screen DVD, but I think you're right, it would interfere with already limited visibility. Although I cannot help with the other questions, I can answer these!

I have the rear tire mount, and like the added room inside. As to the 3rd row seat -- mine is collecting dust in the garage! The only thing I can recommend if you go with the outside tire mount is to keep a pair of gloves handy in the truck... they are helpful in removing that &*^@ pin! 3rd row seat - also in the garage.

I have an exterior tire mount. A little different than Lolo's tho - it's a clasp close rather than the pin close. I think those are the 2 major types of ways to lock the carrier once you swing it back into position.

The carrier has never been an issue for me - there will be times it will try to close on its own if you're on an incline, but you can slightly close the rear hatch to hold the tire in position. It's no big deal. It does limit your visibility out the back, but if you get the convex mirror attachments (which you'll already likely have since you tow), it makes a huge difference in eliminating blind spots.

As for the closing mechanism, I know that the pin close used to have rattle issues, but I think they fixed that. I have had no problems with my clasp close - it's easy to use and stays clean - but I do have to get a good latch on it or the carrier will swing open. It's not a huge deal tho, and well worth the extra cargo room. The H2 has a good amount of space in the back without the 3rd row or tire in there - we take our 2 50 lb dogs on road trips quite comfortably.

My third row seat is also in the garage. I have the external tire carrier and have had no trouble since they fixed the pin close system. I have two headrest monitors and the backup camera system. Dont get the backup camera, it is of limited use and you could not mount it in the hitch if you are going to tow.This is the biggest, baddest most capable SUV on the road. You will love it.
