FYI, Hummer has a new bulletin out instructing dealers that if a mirror needs to be replaced on either side of an H2 from 03-05, to replace both outside mirrors with the 06 style mirrors since they say it is a much better design mirror.

As far as what is better, they say they are more stable, don't become loose at the pivot.
And the fold motor is a better design. If you're out of warranty I supposse you could ask them to try to find the old part number and purchase just one. Or you could purchase both mirrors if you wanted. The better bet would be to try to get your dealer to cover it since it is a known problem.

Hummertech - when did this bullin come out? I was just up at the dealer on Staurday. They had my truck all week for a few warranty issues. One was the driver side mirror is vibrating ever so slightly (just enough to aggravate the living piss outta me http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif) when driving down the road. They didn't mention this as a possible solution, but instead said there wasn't really a solution. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif I'm like most here and not real fond of the new style mirrors, but would consider it to get rid of that damn vibration.

You guys all remember when I was spouting off about how ugly they were and how I hated them, right? Well, after seeing them in person I changed my opinion. They are much sturdier than the earlier models and now have the folding mechanisms & motors up inside of the mirror so they're protected from the elements(moisture).
The only problem is that so far they only come with those damn chrome center pieces.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

something I missed, what is the "known" problem with the mirrors mentioned above. Have had my '05 for a few months now, what should I watch out for.
I too think the new ones are ugly, but if they are better and something is bound to happen to mine, I would like to know what to watch out for...

The 05 mirrors don't seem to have the problems like the 03-04's did. I also just found out that the new style mirrors cannot be ordered just yet, so if you need a mirror warrantied and like the old style better then get in now and you can probably get the old style still.

I was only half correct in my earlier statement.
It turns out this is not a nationwide bulletin. This was more of a regional bulletin issued by our warranty rep. So we have been told to do that. Maybe other reps in the country are doing the same. But some places may not be doing that.

Msg - 2003-2005 HUMMER H2 Outside Rearview Mirrors #HUS20050065 - (Sep 19, 2005)
2003-2005 HUMMER H2 Outside Rearview Mirrors
The outside rearview mirrors have been redesigned for the 2006 HUMMER H2 and are much improved over those used on prior models. Should you have the need to replace a mirror on a 2003-2005 H2, replace both mirrors with the 2006 parts which are a slightly different design. Also, the new mirrors are all chrome - there is no black version (this should be fine for most customers). The new part numbers are 15835056 (LH) and 15835057 (RH).
These new P/Ns are not currently available through GMSPO but are expected to be available the week of October 17, 2005. It is suggested to delay any mirror replacement until that time. However, if a customer prefers not to wait or wants the original mirror, the older parts are available in quantity.

I went to Los Gatos Hummer (Silicon Valley Hummer)and they said they will only replace the mirror that is bad.
(My right mirror is bad) They said if I wanted to pay for the left 06 mirror they would replace the right mirror with the 06 version.
I said I'd pass they're way over priced on most parts.
I'll wait until the mirror goes out again and see what happen.

I've had a problem with my mirrors in the past, but cycling through a few times always fixes the problem. I have a feeling if I bitched enough I could get brand new mirrors.
I heard the '06's are better made anyway. Gears, motor, etc...

I to would like to know if anything can be done for a mirror after the 36,000 mile warranty. My mother-in-law has her '04 H2 in for service right now at Ken Batchlor here in San Antonio, & they quoted my wife a price of $817 http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif to replace the driver's side mirror. The mirrors were replaced August before last for the same problem (won't fold/shake). I told my wife that was rediculous & to talk to the service manager. He said there was nothing he could do. If its a known problem GM should fix it regardless if you're w/in warranty or not.

09-30-2005, 10:56 AM
If you bought the vehicle new, you can ask them to give you assistance. Bring up the point it is a well know problem. This is assuming you're not more than 24k miles outside of your warranty. They can most likely give you both updated mirrors for a small deductible of a couple hundred. K.B. is a good dealer and they should take care of you on that.

What is the criteria for the dealer to just replace them with '06 mirrors? A friend of mine had his '05 in yesterday for the mirror problem and they said they replaced them but they are the old style. Aren't they only replacing them with '06 mirrors now?
T-shirt Man
10-12-2005, 06:36 PM
Its my understanding that any mirror replacement should be with the new 06 style. The mirrors are a documented service issue, so just simply complaining about the vibration should get them replaced, assuming you are still under warrenty.
Hummertech
10-12-2005, 06:41 PM
There is currently a very limited supply of the new style mirrors. Also, dealers may be trying to use up their remaning stock of the old style mirrors, so you may have to specify if you want the new mirrors

My '05 was in about a month ago for the mirror problem, so it must still be a bug even in the newer models (though mine is an EARLY 2005, before tire carrier and auto sunroof were standard [can I say the tire carrier fell off and I need a new one and get it under warranty? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ]). Anyway, I do notice they vibrate at highway speeds and are quite noisy, but is that enough to get them replaced under warranty?

Just got my 06 mirrors installed yesterday. I like the look as opposed to the chrome covered ones, and at least(supposedly) I wont have the problems I've had with the original ones.
In over 1 year, I've had them replaced(under warranty) 3 times.
This last time, the curb assist didn't work on the passanger side so I just told them the drivers one vibrated at high speed just so there would be NO CONFUSION and both would be replaced.
So for all of my fellow Canuks, the 06's are the replacement mirror in Canada as well.

hoping it's the cold weather we have but my 05 mirrors are starting to act up....Do I hang tight until they fall off, or do a dealer visit now.....
Me, I'll wait until they fall off inside of the warranty time.

My passenger side has stopped working all the time, but I'm still not a fan of the new 06 Mirrors. There's too much black on them. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
If you like the black mirrors you can always do what DRTY did. He rattle canned them.

I tried to get my mirrors but since they were already replaced under warranty once, it was a no go.
Anyone know how much a new set is? I took them apart and can stop them from vibrating but the fix won't allow them to fold in electrically.
I'll price out a new set.

Service VME - Updated Outside Rear View Mirrors
2003-2005 HUMMER H2
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
SERVICE VME
The outside rear view mirrors have been redesigned for the 2006 HUMMER H2 and are much improved over those used on prior models. Should you have the need to replace a mirror on a 2003-2005 H2, replace both mirrors with the 2006 parts which are a slightly different design. Also, the new mirrors are all chrome, there is no black version. I’m sure this would be fine for most customers. The new part numbers are 15835056 left and 15835057 right.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed

Same here. They replaced them once already about a year ago. If it gets below about 34 degrees they won't fold. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
I stopped by the dealership today and told them my mirrors needed to be replaced because one of them was shaking violently. He told me they are still replacing with the 05's so I told him I'd wait.
He also told me not to replace the PS mirror glass as he'll take care of it for me.
I love those guys at HALL.

reply to the new 2006 mirrors...My 2005 mirrors failed when you tryed to fold them in. I guess there was a engineering problem. Anyway, my dealer installed the new 2006 mirrors. They are alot more stable. The housing with the elecrical parts is all enclosed, the shaft that comes out of the door to the mirror is slightly larger and all metal.

I went to my dealer 3 months ago and he told me about this, geez I thought South Dakota was the last to hear stuff, I guess not. The mirrors are not a recall, just a bulletin from what he told me. If your factory warranty is over, it wont be covered. All it is saying is if a H2 comes in with a bad mirror, they will replace it not fix it. If you own a extended warranty then if they quit working, then it would cost you the deductable.

I took mine in for the passenger side mirror not folding in and they replaced em with the new style mirrors. IMO, I think they do look better than the old style ones.
