Rally driver Colin McRae dies in helicopter crash

LONDON (AFP) ? Former world rally champion Colin McRae and his five-year-old son were among four people killed in a helicopter crash this weekend in southern Scotland, police said Sunday.

Scotsman McRae, his son Johnny and two family friends including a six-year-old boy were killed when the 39-year-old driver's Squirrel Two aircraft crashed in the grounds of his Lanark home on Saturday.

Tributes poured in from the sporting and political arenas in honour of McRae, who in 1995 was the first Briton to win the world rally championship.

Very sad. Any sort of crack about Rocky (the flying squirrel) would be in poor taste, so I'll refrain.

Damn.:( :crying:No kidding, but it gets bizarre:The Subaru Prodrive rally team chief Dave Richards and his wife survived unhurt when their helicopter crash-landed in Essex, just a day after Richards' friend Colin McRae, the former world rally champion, was killed in a helicopter crash in Scotland.
...

Richards is chief executive of Prodrive which runs the Subaru world rally team and was in charge when McRae won his world rally title.
They didn't want to stay away from home after what happened to McRae.

That probably points to them being killed by a piece of rotor blade.:(
