A bill has been proposed to issue 3x DUI offenders to have to purchase $500, yellow plates to distinguish themselves from the rest of us.

Frankly, I don't have a problem with it, but I don't drive drunk. Others are going ape-chit over it.

Penalty Plate Article (http://hamptonroads.com/2008/01/penalty-license-plates-urged-3time-dui-drivers%E2%80%99-cars)

Get caught driving drunk three times and you?d be the not-so proud owner of a bright yellow license plate under a law proposed by Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., D-Chesapeake.

?With this, you see people with that car and you watch out for it,? he said. ?We?ve got to do something to let everybody know this guy is a danger to society.?

But civil libertarians say the ?Scarlet Letter? approach goes too far and could unfairly mark a car driven by innocent family members. Anti-drunken-driving advocates said it just won?t work.

I like the "public humiliation" punishment ideas.

the military used to give you orange stickers instead of white ones (for the dates) and a m or f.....then when a male drove the m car they would be carded to make sure they were not the person registered to the car.....i thought it was a great idea.....

In Wisconsin that would mean that everyone with the GB Packer plates is a 3X offender? Or would it be every 3X offender is a Packers fan?

Now, lets see if I understand this correctly:

3x DUI
equals

3x the chance of someone killing you, your family, and/or your friends
equals

DARN, THEY MISSED YOU. Buy a yellow plate and try again.

Maybe the idea of one's actions directly affecting or humiliating a family member would actually be an effective deterrent.

Fawk 'em. Why should they even get to drive at all anymore. Just take their damn licenses away. It's a privilege, not a right.
