I have a 2005 H2 with some scratches on the front grille . I was considering replacing it with the 2008 newer style grille (with the larger openings). Does anyone know if the newer style grille can bolt on a pre 2008 H2 without modifications.

thanks for any help

I think you're the first to try it. Let us know how it works out.

I was thinking of doing that to !
my grill is sanded from sand storms over here !
How much does it costs for the 2008 ?
If it can be replaced ?
Any major modification ?

There was a guy on Ebay selling them for less than $200 about a month or so ago. That's why I was considering switching mine out if it fit with no major modifications. Still don't know if the bolt holes line up the same as the earlier models.

I took a chance on purchasing a '08 grille from Ebay not knowing if it would fit my '05 or not.

IT FITS PERFECTLY! As long as you trade out both the main grille and the center lower black section you don't have to make any modifications at all. It bolts on with 4 easy bolts and snaps right on.

My truck has the front chrome double brush guard and an after market FORGE-TEC full lower grille. It looks like I'm going to have to do a small modification to the '08 grille to put these back on my rig.

I'll post another pic after I put the BRUSH GUARD & LOWER GRILLE back on.

I've got to do a small modification to the new 2008 grille before they will fit.

The '08 grille switches out with no problems as long as you switch both the main grille and the lower black plastic grille portion. I had to cut a small section off the sides of the lower piece to allow room for the grille guard to mount but it can't be seen once mounted.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but to verify you CANNOT use the older LOWER GRILL with an 08 UPPER GRILL??

Is this correct???

I think the new grilles are ugly the way they have the HUMMER emblem below. It just doesn't look right...IMO.

But as long as you guys like it, cool. I just like the old way the emblem sets on there.

Is yours chrome? Paint it black? I just did mine in white.

All you need is to scuff it, spray with zinc chromate or acid etch, primer and spray.

No issues plus if you have to pay a bodyshop to do it, it'll still be cheaper than paying shipping.

You can't tell it from an original OEM painted one.

We just painted a black one yesterday for a customer.

Mark I'm with You Brother. Nothing looks better than the original grill.

Letters being moved from up front and center saying HUMMER, I'm bad don't get in my way. You may get one straight up in your grill. It was fun to see people try and move to other lanes in slow traffic just because that bad boy was just creeping around behind them. Sort like I would feel if Big Foot Truck was moving around behind me.

Now it is like they got all afraid of tree huggers and leaf lickers and collapsed under pressure deciding to try and hide that bad boy image. Hummer was never supposed to be an Escalade that is why they came up with Escalade etc. Everyone else was trying to find a way to compete with HUMMER. It was fine but, GM started to dilute the look just very small things but, they began to chip away at the Hummer armour the very thing that made me want one when I first saw the H1 then later the H2. THEY WERE NOTHING LIKE ANYONE ELSE HAD. They had commercials with H2 then even H3 driving out across Alaskan type wilderness. We have learned they are not perfect but, man why does GM have to do things to tear away at Hummer invincibility no matter how small it seems. It just all adds up after a while.

My rig is customized for show but, it is to please others more than myself as things went down the road. My piggy bank grows to buy a 2005 SUT low miles to go with mu SUV and soon off-road like crazy no power adders.

Well bad day so I feel better now.

Not a problem. You should figure it should cost around 150 bucks... give or take 25 bucks. (plus 25 bucks for new decals)

Just make sure they wetsand and buff any trash and/or orange peel.

It shouldn't need anything more than nib sanded but just in case.

Good luck.
