View Full Version : Is GM going to dump Hummer like the Olds brand?

Saw something on another forum that GM is having contacts with Hummer dealerships regarding settlements over thier local costs over Hummer branding and advertizing...
This could mean they may be planning something like what they did with the Oldsmobile brand...
Others argue that just because the sale of the brand failed they may simply fold it into "GMC" or other label.
I dont get any of these acts by GM:lame:

What don't you get about a company selling off that which causes it to lose money?

It's just business, nothing more, nothing less.

Poorly run business, so you're wrong about the "nothing more, nothing less" part. :)

Sorry buddy this is where we disagree.
The stakeholders control the direction of the company. Their motivation is generating profit and minimizing loss. They can "can" the CEO. Meaning nothing more nothing less.
I'm a stakeholder in a company. Hopefully assuming the position of CEO in a few short years. :)

And once you are CEO....free H2's for all the forum members?

I think you missed my point, because I don't see (yet) where we disagree...unless you think that GM is not being run poorly. And that was my point, and not necessarily related specifically to what their plans are for the Hummer brand.

How long would you continue to run a business if it were operating at a net loss each year?

You act as if I am slamming GM for getting rid of Hummer; I am not. I am slamming them in general (no pun intended).
To answer your question..."it all depends"...there are many variables, too many to get into here, that would determine the proper course of action.
And I'm not sure what relevance your "I'm a stakeholder...hope to be CEO" chest pounding has to do with anything.

There's no need to snap, it was just a question. I'm not chest pounding either, it's an aspiration, one that's backed by an education in business administration. I chose management as my major. I understand why companies run divisions into the ground and sell them off or close them down. I used to think it was an ignorant practice.

No snapping involved. ;)
I have a BA in Finance and an MBA and 20 years of related experience, but I'm also just another jackwad playing on the internet. :)

Jackwad, "...and my daddy would kick your daddy's ass all over the place..." snapperhead! :giggling:
That's funny, I went the other route and retired from one job after doing my 20. Then I started a business, which I still own, became a stakeholder in another through marriage, (like George Costanza from Seinfeld) and decided to knock out the education side of it all.
