Okay, so you can't make Moab. 5000 mile round trip too much, your dog has a rhinoplasty scheduled, desert air gives you hives... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Whatever...

Can't make Moab, try Paragon! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've got some ideas on dates that could work, although the first set may be too soon. Here goes:

April 7-9. Arrive Thursday April 6th, wheel Friday and Saturday, depart Sunday the 9th

April 21-23. Arrive Thursday April 20th, wheel Friday and Saturday, depart Sunday the 23th

May May 26-30. Arrive Thursday May 25th, wheel Friday, Saturday, Sunday, AND Monday, depart Tuesday the 30th

So far we have several interested folks:

NJ H2
Ipedog
Ric-H0
yat74
Oldhiker
Marinehawk
HummerLite

If people want to do the April 7-9 trip we need to get organized soon so please vote for what you would like to join in on. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm tring to move some things around for April 21-23 but we can make May 26-30 for sure!

I can't go during the April 7-9 dates because I have family in town. I'll try to make any other dates. Question: If I bring my wife and small son, are there any fun things they can do around there during trip if, as a I expect, they don't want to be banged around in the back of my H2 all day long?

I voted for the single May date. But that's just because we'll be in Moab. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

MarineHawk - I'm not all that familiar with the area so other folk may have better info. Sorry.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

There is the Crayola Factory (http://www.crayola.com/factory/index.cfm?action=plan.home) in Easton, PA. Mapquest says that it is about 80 miles from Paragon.

I doubt that my wife and son will be joining me for the April trip. They will be along for the Memorial Day trip. I do think we will be visiting the Crayola Factory at some point on that trip. Should be fun. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As for wife and kid bouncing about in the truck... Well, I have been trying to convince my wife that there is lots more to it than that. I also understand that the kids do seem to have a good time on these trips, although portable DVD and Kipper is a must. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I hope that this helps. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

IMO, kids love it, especially if there are other kids there.

For the May trip I'd love to see as many kids as possible. My guess is that they would really add to the fun. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

So far it looks like 5 trucks minimum for April 21-23 and 4 trucks minimum for the Memorial day trip. I know of at least one H3 that hasn't voted yet but will be with us for the Memorial Day weekend trip.

So, all things considered it looks like we are a go for these two weekends.

I'll wait a day or so to see if anyone else wants to join in and then start up a PM. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I talked to the boss, and i think I will be able to go on the April 21 trip. She and my little guy might be up for the May trip. Is anyone thinking about camping during all or part of either the April or May trip? I am itching to get out my Moon-Base tent again.

Probably similar to Westcoast wheelin. Slime covered rock. Takes some skeelz to wheel that stuff. Can't just point your wheels and gun it. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Boss & shortypants will not with me for the April weekend but will be for Memorial Day weekend.

Over Memorial Day weekend we will be staying in a hotel. I'm not going to make a first attempt at camping with a 3 year old over a long weekend. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Way too much opportunity for disaster there! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As for April. Well, I'm not sure. I'm not as hardy a soul as you and can live without camping in the snow. I haven't done that since my Army days (and don't miss it http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif).

Average high for April in Hazelton PA is 54 and average low is 34. Thats a wee bit chilly. I'll probably be finding a hotel. We can discuss details in the PM.

I did not wonder, i did a little research.

Not sure where you how you arrived at your assumptions, but the cheapest airfare I could find was for about $235 per person roundtrip. That’s $470 for 2 people. But it leaves at 5:25AM! And takes over 7 hours! Not sure where you got 3 ½ hours from JFK, there are no direct flights that I could find. Times 3 weekends = $1,410

Soft cost – travel time to airport plus extra 2.5 hours once you are to park car and get through security. Loss of about 2 days for travel. 4 – 10 hours each way. I’m at Paragon and on the trails in less time.
Park car at airport - $10+ per day. 3 days = $30 x 3 weekends = $90.

$100+ for food shopping each weekend. No eating out. X 3 weekends = $300
Above is up to $1,800!

Now add all the costs for leaving your Hummer there.

Not appealing to me. On the assumption that you travel Friday and Sunday night, things get worse. Those are some of the busiest times at the airports. Might work for snowmobilers, not me.
Come and join us at Paragon. It’s the best the east has to offer.

johndjmix1
04-03-2006, 02:15 PM
www.jetblue.com (http://www.jetblue.com) Denver to JFK or JFK to denver on 4/20 = $99 (Ok so it went up $10). 2 people does change the deal a lot, thats why you need a girlfriend in both places =). LOL.

Depart JFK 8:30 AM
Arrive JFK 10:55 AM.

Sure there is the time difference, but you dont
"lose" much time to traveling.

Secure storage for truck where I stay in CO costs me $20/mo. Indoor you could get for $40-50.

Don't get me wrong though, paragon is definatly fun....(too bad you cant stay there overnight). Curious, is there anywhere else to go out east? Maybe when im home in NY ill take my ford expedition and come meet you guys (Hummer is staying in CO).
