Is this pretty normal? Should I just touch it up, or would this be a warranty item? Anything to be concerned with??

It's on both sides of the rear doors, same place.

What year is that? My buddy has an 03, he only has rust on the rear panel near the lower rubber part.

Doesn't look too bad, I think that is just a little bit more than a surface rust and will not go too deep any time soon. I would just touch it up for now and wait and see if it gets any worse. Maybe even sand it a bit first, that way you will see how deep it is, but that will probably make the touch up area larger and more noticeable in the end...

If you are planning on keeping the truck for a long time this needs to be addressed and done correctly. as it is rusting in the seam, just touching it up will not work. If left to continue to rust within a few tears you may need a panel!

What year is that?

It's an 06, 48,000 miles.

Dealer is 150 miles away, so going to email him some pics and see what they say. I may run it by a local body shop as well to get their opinion.

I would have this fixed immediately, as it WILL get worse. The problem is, this could be a pretty expensive fix as the location will require the top panel and bottom panel to be repainted on both sides, unless you can keep the repair under that line, but I would doubt it. It will be expensive, but a solid move if you plan on keeping the rig.

Are you the original owner? It looks as though it may have been repainted at one time, it looks like there may be a small run/sag on the upper portion of the panel on the very edge and on the lower just to the left and below the rust a dirt nib in the paint..... if it was painted and not prepped correctly it could be the cause of the rusting.

I agree with the others with getting it fixed ASAP, if it was painted there is no way the dealer is going to warranty it

2nd owner. To my knowledge the truck has not been painted, but it certainly may have been. No sag, just poor picture...dirt nit could go either way in my experience. I had a new Z06 delivered with similar nits in the hood, dealer had to repaint....just GM quality shining through...lol. :)

Will have a body shop I know look at it this weekend or next week. Agree it needs to be addressed ASAP.
