Myth No. 6: Drivers of sports cars get more tickets and thus pay higher insurance premiums.
Fact: That's not necessarily the case. According to a study released in 2009 by Quality Planning, leading the pack with the most violations are drivers of the Hummer H2/H3 (http://autos.msn.com/browse/Hummer.aspx). Hummer drivers have almost five times the average number of violations. Drivers of three Scion models (http://autos.msn.com/browse/Scion.aspx) (tC, XB Station, XA) also made the top 10 list. Others on the list include drivers of two Mercedes-Benz (http://autos.msn.com/browse/Mercedes-Benz.aspx) models (CLK63 AMG, CLS63 AMG), two Toyotas (http://autos.msn.com/browse/Toyota.aspx) (Solara, Matrix), the Subaru Outback station wagon (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/default.aspx?state=new&make=Subaru&model=Outback) and the Audi A4 (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/default.aspx?state=new&make=Audi&model=A4).

Who the heck is Quality Planning and where do they get their data from! I think this is a case of someone not liking Hummers pulling data out of thin air.

I've never gotten a ticket or pulled over in my H2 in the 5 years I have owned them. (knock on wood). To tell you the truth I find it hard to speed in the H2. Its heavy and I can tell when I'm getting up there in speed. My wife has a Ford Edge and it really cruises, you can hit 80 and not even know it. I'm no lead foot and I used to drive faster when I was younger, but the hummer doesnt like it fast, always smooth and steady, I get a very comfortable ride at 65-70mph. I find that study very hard to believe. I would also like to believe that younger drivers get more tickets, and that age demographic doesnt typically include HUMMER drivers for the most part.

I'm not buying the fact that Hummer drivers get more tickets, especially as was pointed out with the demagragraphics of the average H2 owner at 56.6 according to Hummer in 2008. I know in 2003 when I had the 2003 H2, the Hummer cost more to insure than when the 1994 ZR1 was new.
I don't think tickets have anything to do with it, I think it's weight, size and the potential for serious damage to another. I haven't had a ticket in twenty-six years and now if you have the money in my state you can get them changed to a non moving violation, like a muffler with the right lawyer.

i've had several tickets. One doing close to 140 in my 2007 Maxima SL. none in the wifes Honda mini-van, even though i've had it up to 130. LOL! Hummer seems just what i need to slow down.

I was told that the reason they are more to insure is because they are large and heavy and the approach angles are high so it might be possible to run over and a smaller car.

I read that the reason to get pulled over in HUMMER is cause they are big and have a lot of flat surface areas and all the lights really help it stand out.

I'm not sure why everyone's Hummer in this post so far is slow, but either due to gears or a chip in ours I really must say has left many other trucks at a light wondering.

Well, I am a cop, and I have never yet pulled over a Hummer of any kind, and I have never been aware of any of my partners pulling one over. I think this "statistic" is pure crap. I would say that there is no one specific car that gets more tickets. That is the same as saying guns kill people. It's people, not things! :raar:

I've only been pulled over once in my H2. I was ticketed for failure to come to a complete stop while trying to avoid an accident ???

I've had cops pull me over in one of the Porsches for doing 40 plus over the limit and just got a warning.

My insurance company told me the reason the cost is so high on the Hummers is the amount of damage they can do in an accident. The cost on the GT2 is the same as the H2. Imagine, it will do 200mph and will do less damage ???

yeah that crap was on yahoo about 6 months ago talking about how they are the most ticketed cars on the road. ive never had a ticket in mine.. and never seen any pulled over. they excuse they gave was that it was bigger and flashier than most cars and cought the cops attention. as far as the ins. goes for the difference in price my mustang is only a few bucks less a month to insure
