Does anyone have the iPhone smart start system. It looks pretty awesome! But if i get rid of my truck, the next guy needs an iphone to use it. Anyone seen one?

I installed the app on my iphone to check it out. It's actually a pretty good idea.

The reason I like it is because I carry my phone with me anyways. It's a PIA to carry my key fob AND my remote start fob.

I just haven't bought it because I can't see paying 300 bucks for the hardware to add onto my system just so I can use my phone.

I had my guy use my original remote for starting.
I just hit lock twice.

Really? You can program your OEM remote?

I like that idea, that's why the only time I use the remote starting system are on REALLY cold days.

I need to find out how to do that...

I dont think the remote is programed.
I think a relay or module is set up to read 2 clicks of the lock.
Funny thing if you hit the door locks twice on the door it will start up.http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

I installed an Avital on my H2 and did away with the OE remote. The thing I REALLY like about using the remote start remote is that I can lock/unlock the truck at the same range that I can remote start with. I always hated the limited distance the factory remote works. I can use the remote from about a football field away.

Although I REALLY hate wiring these in myself and keep saying "next time" I will pay someone else to do it, I keep doing them on my own vehicles!!!

The other feature I like about my Avital is that if the engine temp is below 30 degrees, it automatically turns on the front heated seats (on low) and also turns on the rear defroster. There was NO extra wiring to get this feature as the VATS override is done via the GM databus wire and thus the brain is able to send the correct signal via the databus wire to turn these features on as well as factory alarm arm/disarm and the lock and unlock of the doors.

I stopped by bestbuy and for $499+tax installed. I don't think it ways out. I kinda need a remote start up here and viper makes pretty nice 2way's for $299. That's pretty sweet that yours turns the heated seats and defrost on. I was under the impression that there's some sort of pressure switch in the heated seats. I'll turn them on when I let the truck warm up, and they don't do anything. But 3 minutes after I jump in, just like any other time, they're burning my money maker off. Same thing with the pass seat, I'll flip it on on the drive to my girls place and it doesn't heat up till after she's sitting on it. Maybe something with the heat transfer, I don't know.
