Looks longer than the H2; kinda like the Suburban is to the Tahoe.

Mr Musky...this talk about your begining question....comparing or better yet actually asking someone opinion about another SUV that looks like the H2. Isn't this a Hummer forum? Whats all the chit chat about other trucks besides the H2. Be careful, you may actually get some responses and someone may acuse you of bringing up subjects that are not worthy of the Hummer forum http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

What a rip-off of the Hummer design.

I hope GM sues em.

By the way - nice 2X4s holding up the interior - is that a standard feature?

Yeah, I notice it's right next to the Avantis -- another 'timeless' design... whatever!

I can not F'in believe what I'm seeing!! First there was that weird proto-type new jeep-thing, and now this. What a total rip-off. Let me think about this.....um....ahh...who cares.

The one thing you can't fault them for...at least they know which brand is worth copying!

From what I see, it's longer and a bit narrower...and it looks like there was some bizarre insect influence involved in the design. I don't buy it!

HUMMER: LIKE NOTHING ELSE!

Allen,

You sound like one of my kids when someone else makes fun of her bicycle. They become defensive about everything else. Don't be such a baby.

If it can break it can be fixed.

Everyone wants a HUMMER. No matter what they say. Deep down inside the Hummer in everyone will come out.
If you can't drive the real thing, then why not a rip off of the real thing.

see thats the funny part the Hummer is a compilation of a number of other vehicles, so in some ways its also a rip off vehicle.

just to relate why I started this thread I thought that people here would be intrested.

to think everything is just an attemp to piss people over here off is just crazy, you guys need to just sit back and enjoy. I honestly posted this just to provide something for guys to chat about...thats what forums are for.

yea kelley I thoughnt the same thing ,its truley ugli!!

but then again studebaker was always one ugli car after another so at least they stayed true to form.

I knew brook stevens, he worked on and off trying to polish a number of studebakers designs over the years, when I was 16 i worked next door to his automobile museum and from time to time eat lunch with him out back of the car restoration place i worked at. he once walked me thru the whole museum telling me car for car the story behind each. when we got to one I remember him saying "and this is the ugliest car ever built"...it was a studebaker!

it looks very pieced togather to me, that front bumper looks like a safari guard and from the pics on the news today it ruins the front approach angles. but then again I dont see many of these ever making it to the trail. they will end up in collections looking stupid.

Will anyone buy this thing? Oops I forgot, People actualy buy the MB G500! So I guess they will buy one of these.

By the way, I test drove the G500 and it SUCKED! The salesman said "We only made these for people who wanted a big SUV and didn't mind wasting 75K"

I guess that answers my question!

Then in a few years no one will be able to find parts for them...oh wait...it IS a Studebaker, right? And we all know their reputation for workmanship and sales. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The only upside is that the next time some religious group focuses on a "what THIS prophet would drive" maybe they'll pick on something other than a Hummer. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Back to the Studebaker XUV:
<< independent carmaker Michael Kelly plans to introduce a 5,900-pound mega-SUV so macho he calls it an "extreme utility vehicle," or Studebaker XUV, at the Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 14-23.>>

First off, this can't be a serious consideration for production. And second, at 5900 lbs he just misses the weight required for the tax loophole.

Hmmm...title of this thread...

Could have been "Another Hummer?", "Copy-cat Hummer", "Where did they get this design from?" or "look familar"..

but no...it had to be something with a little bit of an edge: Move over Hummer. The implication being????? Poor choice of words...or was it?

Musky seems to have some wolf hair under his sheep outfit? Yet he contends to be here due to an interest in the H2.

ktower_heels
02-13-2003, 06:59 PM
Jim, I thought the same thing. If I can't write the thing off through my company; I'll be damned if I buy it. I will stick to my earlier post that they are trying to make a suburban version of the H2. The rugged look with all the soccer mom room!

Mike97ZJ
02-13-2003, 08:49 PM
Kind of looks like SuperDuty from the front. Seeing as the article says it has a V10, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it's based on.

Anyway, who knows WHAT they were thinking.

I think if that guy wanted to make any money, he'd bring back the late forties bullet nosed Stude. Now THOSE were cool.

i was under the impression that studebaker has been out of business for quite some time. Does a parent company own them?

Orange H2, Lux package, back-up camera, xm. Not bad for first ride, eh?

Mike97ZJ
02-14-2003, 12:10 PM
Yeah, back in the 60's when Stude folded, there was a group of Avanti enthusiasts who refused to let the car die. They bought the rights and the tooling, and continbued to build the car for years after that. I think it went in and out of production over the years as the company changed hands.

Or something like that.

I was surprised to see this article, I didn't know they were still around.

Thom....you seem like a nice guy and all...but let's not kid ourselves about your motives. You could have chosen a better title for this thread: "Check this out!" or "A wannabe Hummer?" or "Here's a unique design" or many other titles. But no....you chose something with a bit of a kick: Move over Hummer. "Move over" as in...something new and better has come along. It's psudo-offensive....and let's not pretend it's anything other then just that.

Also...many cars have a variety of parts from other manufacturers...even the H1 has a multiple of Ford and Chevy parts in it. It's not big deal.

Since you've posted here I've watched and for the most part it would seem your absolutely determined to make certain that nobody is too impressed with the Hummer. I've heard nothing good from you about the H2....and your very quick to point out weak designs and flaws.

I wanted to believe in you, I really did...but I checked out the discoweb and found that you are basically the wolf who can walk amoungst the sheep. Those children over there are almost stalking our forum...determined to belittle us and rub our noses in whatever they can possibly find. You yourself are personally responsible for lifting LOTS of stuff from this forum and bringing it back to them to show off.

If nothing else, psychology teaches us that people insult other people in order to feel better about themselves. Why do you suppose it's so incredibly fascinating to you and your buddies to campaign such an assualt on our forum?

GM's answer:

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/030214/gm_avanti_lawsuit_1.html

Steve R
02-14-2003, 09:47 PM
well....you have to admit it does look a lot like the H2....except it seems a bit narrower, a bit longer and has some strange Dodge Ram front look slightly dialed into it.

I'm not surprised GM is suing. I don't think they should bother...who's gonna buy that thing when it cost $15K MORE then the Hummer and isn't a Hummer?

I don't know what's sadder...the fact that I have this attitude, or the fact that I'm right?

Although....it wouldn't surprise me if some of our new forum-buddies won't jump right in and tell us how the Avanti-thing will beat the pants off us offroading and is leagues ahead of the H2.

Muskyman, we must've been neighbors at some time. I live about 3 minutes from the now-gone Brook Stevens Museum and spent many an afternoon there admiring his collection. The former "curator", Alice Preston, now runs Camelot Classic Cars in Milwaukee. Just thought I'd say hello.

Circuitguy

Are they going pressure treat those 2x4's before it leaves the factory? When they purchased there H2 to copy they should have took close attention to the interior...C
