View Full Version : extended warranty

I am looking at an extended warranty from Warrantybynet.com. The price quoted is 5yrs 100k for $1,811. This is for their "Premier Advantage Series", which is supposedly their best package. Anyone have any dealings with this company? This price sounds pretty good compared to the dealer GM extended warranty. My H2 has 4,600 miles.

I would not recommend buying a third party warranty. Buy the GMPP major guard warranty, or pass completely.

Do a search on google groups and you will see horror stories. Some dealers will not even work with third party companies because of the hassles involved.

I paid $1725 for 5 years / 50,000 miles with a $200 deductible for a GMPP major guard plan.

One thing you need to think about is how long you will keep the Hummer. Seems like most people stated their other autos are generally 2-3 years models, sounded like most do not keep the same vehicle for too long. I bought 6 yr/72K extended warranty, but why do I want 6 yrs if I mostly likely will change to a new Hummer max 3-4 years later.

Extended warranty starts after the standard 3 yrs warranty ends. I paid $2200 which will be totally empty and useless for 3 years. So what if I have a $3000 repair job 4th year, I am not ahead financially.

If h2fan is thinking about spending real money on a viper with no room for kids, h2fan has the profile of a guy who most likely will not be driving the same Hummer 3 years later. Then why buy a 5 years warranty? Use car buyer is not going to pay you much, if any extra for the warranty.

Basic on this logic, my 6 yrs/72K $2200 warranty is a waste of money.

$2200 + $900 (3 yrs service contract) + $3000 (options I have but no need) = total wasted $6,100. Hind sight is 20/20.

I am looking for the extended warranty because of the miles I drive. I do about 30-35,000 miles a year, so the GM factory warranty will not last long. There has also been some discussion about the CNA warranty that is available. Anyone have any feedback on this one?

Mac, as far as a return on investment, I only hope that the extended warranty turns out to be the worst investment I ever make. I would gladly spend the money and never use it. Kind of like my snow plow contract!!!

H2Fan, I just went to Google and searched for extended warranty, plugged in my info, and got the quote on line.

One last question, is the GMPP warranty available for higher mileage than 72K?

According to their we site:

http://www.gmprotectionplan.com/product_comparison.cgi

The longest plan would be 84 month, 100,000 miles.

Jim, What did the dealer charge for the warranty?

I don't have the paperwork handy. It was rolled into the financing, but I think it was around $2000.
