Hey all,
So I was under the truck today and happened to see I have two hoses that were capped off by the engine just in front of the tranny.
I followed them back to see they are connected into the transfer case (I believe that is what it is called the the rear shaft is connected to and is in the middle of the truck)

So what are these hoses for?
Why would they be capped off?

Everything appears to be OEM like.
In fact the hoses have a small clamp on the tranny to keep them in the proper routing.
These hoses run from the transfer case to the front along side the tranny
The capped hoses are in the front near the engine and tranny
the hoses go back to the transfer case, and connect to it.

Vent hoses for transmission and transfer case. Should also be some for front and rear diff's

seriously?
seems like alot of tubing for a vent and that they are capped

btw, is it possible they could leak oil?

Wouldn't think that they would leak

damn thats just awkward

as for the leak, yeah i have one now and cant figure out where it is coming from.
Thought when I saw oil on the hoses that it might be them, but there is some oil all over the place.

Oh well.
weird things done by Hummer

I was checking my vent lines at the case while doing my 50k.

What I found weird is they weren't clamped on. I grabbed a zip tie.

I didn't trace them to the plugged end as manual just said check for kinks at tc.

Why are the vent tubes plugged?

I don't think they are "plugged" but that they are a "one way valve" to vent out any pressure/gasses that may build up in the cases from heat and maybe also to keep the pressure from trying to go out any shaft seals which would cause leaks, just a guess on my part

$$$ .... That seems to make perfect sense.... More than perfect.

Riddle me this please
So then, why (what appears to be) 4 feet of hose that goes to the engine area along side what becomes a hot transmission?

I would think that just a few inches of hose out of the way would do the same with that valve on it. Right?
I would also think that if you were to do something like the oem setup (with the supposed 4 feet of hose), that you would route it to an area away from the heat or the engine area (like say to the side of the truck or the back). Right?

Just wondering why they have it setup like this??
Inquiring mind want to know :D

I didn't design it but, I am pretty sure the ones for front and rear diff's are up high to prevent any water getting into them, (guess that blows the theory about a one way valve I guess). The hoses are heat resistant so that is why they are not melted :D and they are doing what they are intended to do vent pressure.

Also I am guessing that the drive train was assembled as much as possible before it was lifted up into the body of the truck......just a guess.

HUMTECH, give me some help here will ya :giggling:

Please
I am trying to make some sense of what was done here (and with alot of other things Hummer has done in this design).
