HI all. Im new to the fourm and glad I joined. You guys/gals are a wealth of info on H2 ownership.

Any suggestions on a quality rear tire carrier that doesn't rattle and doesn't cost $1400 like the one I saw at the dealership?

The one I saw on the lot was nice, it actually used the same bolt holes as the tow hooks and it looked clean and the spare was on there tight. It had a little chrome locking lever you pulled to open the rear and the frame was "A" shaped. If that sounds familiar let me know where I can get it at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the help.

tire carrier (http://www.elcova.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=2826088551&f=4616043161&m=4226060604)
Do a search or check the sponsors for better price than dealer.

H2Dude,

First off welcome to the forum! Click on the banner below and you will find the tire carrier you are looking for on the front page of our site. It comes with all you need, the carrier, jack relocation bracket, license plate bracket, and best of all it requires no drilling on the bumper, it uses the tow hook mounts only. See for your self! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif BIG-C

Circuitguy,

That sure looks like the on I saw at the dealership. Does that rack use the tow hook bolt holes?

Can you email me a bigger pic?

And most importantly the price looks right.

Thanks again. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes! It only uses the tow hook mounting points to attach to the H2, no drilling required! I will get a bigger pic tonight and post it for you. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif BIG-C

h2dude..

I am not a big fan of mounting the tire in the rear. I put mine on the roof. but if you do rear mount it... it would be nice to have one of those hard cases over it to match the vehicle paint... those look sharp... not as functional... but sharp...

Welcome to the fold.. I use the SMA tire rack.. works well.. On the roof in a gobi rack would be more out of the way.. I couldn't go that way due to an accient last yr. the old back won't take throwng a 80+ wheel/tire on the roof..

NO issues with mine.

H2Dude,
Welcome to the forum. My theory on rear tire carriers is simple. The average person may use his spare once over the next 5 years. However the average person opens the rear tailgate daily. So now you have to open the tire carrier everytime you want to go in the back of the truck. That sounds like it could get old fast. If you think you need the spare leave it in the back. If not take the spare out altogether and buy a tire plugging kit (available at any auto parts store). Piece of cake, especially if you have air ride. Plug the tire while its on the vehicle and pump it up with your on board compressor.

Spike makes an excellant point.. I have mine hang on the back for two reasons. #1 to get it out of the cab so I can have atleast as much storage as my daughters Toyota Matrix and my Newfi has room to turn around. #2. I put the same wheel on the spare as the over four.. ONly reason.. It looks good. I rarely do anything because I need too.. I primarily do things because I can and I like it.
