I recently tried the Nitto Mud Grapplers and was disappointed with the ride. Problems getting them balanced. Tried 3 different sets and 3 different shops to balance them. I have 37" BFG MT's now (they ride like stock)on Renagade 18 X 10's and want to go with a wider tire and 38's. I like the aggresive tire look BUT want the best of both worlds as far as a decent ride and "nasty" look. Any tire/wheel package suggestions? Pics if you have some too. THANKS!

<P align=left><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>CYPRESS,
CALIFORNIA - Toyo Tires® announces their aggressive new off-road style Open
Country M/T (mud terrain) tire for light trucks and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
The result of extensive product engineering and field development, the Open
Country M/T is designed with a deep lug tread to meet challenging off-highway
conditions.</FONT></P>
<P align=left><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>Initially
developed in 38X15.50R18 and LT325/60R20 sizes, the Open Country M/T's great,
aggressive appearance will enhance the looks of any pickup and SUV, including
specialty vehicles such as the new Hummer H2. Toyo's DSOC (Dynamic Simulation
Optimized Contact) technology incorporates a supercomputer to dynamically
simulate tire behavior under a variety of operational conditions. Excessive
tread noise is minimized through the use of CASPAN (Computer-Aided Simulator for
Pattern Noise), while STACS (Structural Analysis Computer Software) is used to
simulate tire response to a variety of road surfaces, optimizing braking,
steering and acceleration. According to Kevin Lakkis, Product Manager, Light
Truck Tires, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corporation. The silhouette of the tread pattern
on the Open Country M/T is continued onto a portion of the sidewall of the tire.
This allows for maximum traction when reducing air pressures in mud, sand or
gravel.</FONT></P>
<P align=left><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>Whether fording
streams, slogging through deep mud, snow or sand, or just driving down the
highway, the new Open Country M/T will provide the ultimate combination of
aggressive looks and all around traction. Its cap ply construction enhances belt
endurance, while its new technology design provides a more durable sidewall and
the benefit of a more stable handling on vehicles with high ground
clearance.</FONT></P>

I just put these on my 18" Ambush wheels this Monday and in comparison to the BFG MT's they are as smooth as glass and very quiet!

I had those on the 20's before the lift. I wanted something a little more aggressive looking. Good thought though

James,
Have you tried having them shaved at southwest brake and alignment off of I35. I have done this with all my truck tires and the outcome has been great. I even had 38" super swampers on my F350 and it rode smooth as glass, but they still made the noise of a 747 taking off.(too aggressive of a tire). I currently have Goodyear MTR on the Hummer and The ride is much quiter and completely smooth. I have gone through all the same problems that you have (trying 3 sets of tires and nobody being able to balance them) then going to Southest brake and alignment and all problems solved. You will be amazed! I have probably done this for at least 6 sets of tires and have always had great reults.
What it does is make the tire perfectly round. Since tires that big are hard to make perfect, it fixes this. It only shaves off the high points of the tire. Then after the tire is perfect they spin balance it on the truck at like 90 mph.
Anyways try it you can then keep the awesome tires that you really like. Your set up was perfect. I would like to do somethig like that but then you have the issues of Parking garages and my garage at home.
Let me know if you need more info.
Scott
P.S. Who did you deal with at The Max? Most likely Billy. He is a good friend of mine.

Here is my original report of my BFG MTs. (http://elcova.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=2826088551&f=5106011751&m=225107444&r=225107444#225107444) I got to really USE them a couple of weekends ago while wheeling in some extreme weather and they have impressed me any more. We got into some extreme articulation situations while having to winch out of several uphill spots and the tires did rub a bit more than they had in the past. Still nothing big though. They did rip the inside of a one of the fender flairs on a corner. A quick fix with a dremel tool got rid of the bur that got left and the flari was none the worse for ware. I highly recommend these tires. Discount tire will beat anyone's price and include mounting, balancing, and rotation.
