I am a combo home & auto audio/videophile.

What I am looking for is a great sounding soundstage (wide, stable, enveloping, but distinct. Distinct meaning I can pinpoint instruments in each location of the car as the are played). Some may say that you can't support both a DD/DTS environment and a true audiophile environment in an SUV, but I am going to try.

Need speaker recommendations based on the following:

1) I am not going to rebuild the doorpanels completely. I'll use the current enclosures and drill into the panels if I need to. also add Dynamat when necessary.

2) Will the Alpine H900 support a 7.1 environment or only 5.1. (The Hummer is very long and I was planning to use: Front, Center, Right channels upfront..... Right and Left Channels in the second row, and rear channels firing toward the front of the vehicle for rears for additional backfill.

3) Most importantly!!!!! This install is for a large SUV... NOT for a small car, so the speakers will tend to be lower in the doors and hence the soundstage tends to be lower.. need to overcome this somehow. Dimensions of the H2 are 82 inches high by 81" wide by 122" long. (its a big sucker!)

Photos of the interior are found here (at the bottom of the page):

Good luck with your install. I too am an avid audiophile, patiently waiting for my H2 to arrive while I find out what other are doing. I have a little different situation than most in that I'm taking a long expedition to South America, so space is at a huge premium. And also, I could care less whether or not the rear seats have pretty pictures to watch.

Are you planning on making everything look like it was built in?

P.S. I have found that you can get alot of directional information from small mids and tweeters, and they even make surface mounts [not sure about Alpine] you can put almost anywhere. Everything below 5 or 6 thousand hz. can come from lower and you won't notice it as much.
