AOL, Yahoo, Google, ICQ, IRC, MSN - whatever. I am on AOL (the one I use most daily). We like to use it in the office, and I use it at home too.
If you use any of these - check out trillian.cc, I use that program all the time, it molds them all into one. = Easy.

Gaim is pretty cool, too. Haven't tried Trillian.
One thing I gotta figure out is how to get myself out of other people's buddy list after I agreed to be included. Any suggestions?

Will they know I blocked them?
Last year I worked on project with a group of college staffers and they were chat happy. Now that the project is over they still want to be my chat friend. P roblem is, I don't particularly enjoy their company or their continual need to talk political trash BUT, they are a client and I will do business with them again this year. Don't want to offend, you know?

No expert, but I believe you will just show up as being offline.

Sewie is right on the money. It will look like you are never on, and they will have no idea they are blocked. If you want to test it out rodster, let me know, and I will block you or something.

I think you can also show your status as offline per contact. Instead of blocking them you can just change your status for that one contact to offline and they won't know the diff. I could be wrong... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
