As you know, I put the lift on this weekend. One thing I didn't like is you can't use the stock skidplate with a 6" lift.

I noticed another member had done his so I changed mine last night.

Did a quickie polish on it. What do you think?
Oh yeah, I swapped the double brushguard for a single.

"Quickie polish"? I was under the impression it takes many hours to polish the alu skid plate. How do you do it quick?

How did you do that? Looks great.

How did you mount it with the lift? Thinking of adding the Fatech 6'' to my rig as well. I also would like to know how you did a quickie polish job on it! Did you have it polished before? Please don't keep us hang'n on this...LOL

To make it fit, I cut across every second rib and cut out about 3/8" of material. Then I bent the plate at a much steeper angle. The cut came a further distance towards the rear of the plate than where it was bent from the factory.

It was then tig-welded and polished.

As far as a "quickie" polish, the plate had never been polished before. I used some coarser jewelers rouge (sp?)and put it on a buffing wheel. It was a PIA since the wheel is mounted on a permanent fixture so therefore I had to keep moving the plate around.... very difficult when you have to sit on the ground and hold it by hand.

BRB, gotta get a pic of it.

Okay, you can see how hard it would be to manipulate the plate around.

Anyway, I said quickie cause it took me about 2 hours to polish it. If I were to do it the way I'd normally polish it, the plate would have taken another 3 hours.

Sorry, forgot to answer. It was simple once it was bent correctly. The front upper holes are used again, the left rear bolt was simply drilled into the existing skidplate that Fabtech uses (I didn't remove it, I kept it there) and the right rear bolt, well, I had to make a bracket so I could bolt it on.

Simple actually. It's not perfect, it's a hair crooked. It was perfect until it got welded and the heat warped it a bit. It's very minor and I got to keep the original plate.

That looks pretty darned good for a quick job, Mark.

It must be nice to have a lift and a fully equipped shop...

You're the perfect candidate to do what many have dreamed of: RAGTOP! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Man, I honestly don't know. I had bought this from a vendor we did business with and now he's not around. The block is about the size of a gold brick. You're just going to have to look up polishing supplies.

I'll look around here since we're a bodyshop, perhaps one of our vendors can get some.

Swamplobster,

No problem, if you need help, don't hesitate to ask.

LOL, I was going to do the exact same thing except in the orange.

The reason I didn't is as I was starting to polish it, I noticed how many chips and scratches were in the aluminum.

I was actually thinking of painting around the H2, leaving the H2 polished and then using a clear powdercoat to cover the entire thing.

What do you think of the clear powdercoating idea?
