I have complained to the dealer several times over the last few years about some unusual clanking noises coming from either the tranny/transfer case. Well on this last OR event, I had it in High Lock, and backed down while turning hard right off a 6' high sand dune ledge (too soft to make it up), and the thing slammed so hard my passenger said...what the hell was that? I told him it happens every once in a while when off-roading, never in town. So of course the dealer can never replicate as they don't know how to off-road....they even mentioned to me that they are afraid to drive over their $80K display case mini-course hump! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Any suggestions? Phil...since you are a rock and dune guy? I never heard these clanks while with you SA guys.

Hey Phil:

No noises on the road now, after they put in the nickel plated yoke, and that was only a small klunk on initial acceleration.

I guess the loud clank could have been emitted from the rear diff...not only was it loud, but you could really feel it. I have heard "similar" (not as loud) noises when shifting to/from low lock, that's why I state "tranny/transfer" case noises. I had traction, but it was in fine sand so it could/would have slipped, not grabbed when turning. Oh well, I'll keep an eye/ear/feeler out for additional noises. Maybe I will ask the service guy to ride along with me this Sat at their mini-event?

But, maybe then he will blame all my problems on "off-roading" http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks Phil!
