Was at the local tire shop and he has 4 tires and steel wheels mounted and slightly used.
I can get for $700 out the door.
Being bias ply do u all think these would make a good set of winter/offroad tires?
He let me bring one home to try out the fit.

Duramax:

Swampers are loud tires. They're great in mud, but they'll wear fast and cause hearing loss at speeds above 55mph. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As for Winter - if you get a lot of snow in your part of Ohio; I'm not so sure Swampers are all that good in the white stuff.

what truck are you going to put them on...... They wouldn;t fit on a H2

for a tire to be somewhat decent in snow, it needs to have some siping in the treads. Swampers don't.

Bias ply tires in the cold get "square" until they warm up which if its really cold out can take awhile.

They are really difficult to balance and get out of balance easily.

If you want InterCos, try the SSR as its a radial and made much better.

Albie, they do fit the H2, I put the one on the front and looks like it has plenty of room.
I also pulled that wheel up on a RR tie to see if it hit anywhere and still has 1" clearance.
We had a set of 18x44 ground hogs on a Chevy truck and it did great in snow or mud.
Dad has a set of 18X39.5 Boggers on his truck right now but I'd need a little lift to put them on the H2.

I took some pics but they are at home.
The only reason I am checking is I can save about $400 over a new set.

The swampers will clear if you get the right rims. Sounds like you got them. I'm assuming that the tires are TSL or maybe the SX. All bias swampers are good off road tires. As stated earlier they are harder to balance than radials and they can get out of round in the cold. You do have an advantage. Your H2 is HEAVY. Run the tires at 20-25 psi and see how they do. I think you'll be happy. As for wear you have a disadvantage. Your truck is HEAVY. Don't expect much more than 20,000 to 25,000 miles out of them.

I've got several customers that only got 15,000 miles out of the SSR swampers on Chevy HD 2500 crew cab 4x4s. (1000 or so lbs more than us.

Thanks Dan,I think I'm getting a set of General MT 12.5x35R-16.5 on white spoke steel wheels.
$540 new out the door, running special on the tires.
These will have better street manners than the TSL bias and will run them more during winter.
But I got to say the TSL sure look mean on the H2 http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
