Has anyone had real body work done on their H1? I have a hole in my rear door, cracked the aluminum above the window and dented the top and side of the wheel housing on my box. Also, the weld between the right rear pillar and the box has been separated. I also destroyed the rear tonneau cover, velcro hold down strip and abraded the top. When I get this repaired, what do I need to look for to make certain that the body work was done properly? I am a little upset by this turn of events and need some guidance.

Wow. That is one impressive list of busted stuff. I have not had any work done on my HUMMER but will try and give some advice.
1. The hole in the door: The door has a steel skin, so a piece of metal can be cut to fit in the hole and then welded over. Before you weld something the surface needs to be very clean, a reputable shop should know how to prep for welding. After that the weld would be ground down some filler would be added, and then it would be primed and painted.
2. The aluminum crack: Aluminum can be welded, and then the rest would be a repeat procedure of the body prep.
3. Dents: Dents can be pulled. Dont be fooled by that ding king dent remover crap. It takes professional body tools to get professional results.
4. The tonneau cover: get a new one. The velcro can be replaced. Go to a boat cover shop and have them cut you new strips of industrial velcro.
As far as making sure that the body work work was done well. Make sure that the shop that you have the work done at is very clean. If dust particals or even the oil from your fingers get on a surface that is going to be painted before it is primed you paint will not adhere to the surface well. When you have paint work done the new paint will likely not match EXACTLY to the old paint, it should be close, and after 90 days it should be almost perfect. My advice would be to get refrences, talk to your friends see where they have had their work done and how the experiece was. There are lots of good body shops in my area, and I'm sure that there a reputable shops by you, look around take your truck to them and have them look it over, get a few opinions, and choose the one thats best for you. I have had my Passenger side doors fixed twice. The same way Carey metioned. We have a great body shop in our town. The first time I put a hole in the front door on a tree root, and the second time I scraped the whole side on a tree. If you look at the truck you can not tell where the damage was. Find a shop who will do a quality job and you will never know it was there.

Did you do this damage on or off the road?

As soon as I get them back I will gladly share the pictures. It was superbowl night, I could care less about the game and I took a few guys out. I was out on the track behind the Sioux Falls HUMMER dealership and climbing a 20 foot hill with a wicked drop off to the right and my right rear tire slipped across a rock and my rear end kicked out and slammed into a tree. The truck kept climbing without hesitation after that. The tree hit across the door handle and crimped the door and all of the other damage I listed above. I will be posting the pictures before, during and after the reconstruct.
