Does anyone here have experience with H1 rollover?..My main question is if there is any real frame damage involved, or is it tough enough to just right and keep going?

Depends on the terrain and the amount of rolling it did. I've seen the aftermath of a 2001 H1 that rolled in the Glamis Sand Dunes. It was still driveable, with holes punched in the roof where the roof rack supports were placed.

Other rollovers could be more destructive.

There's a clip of an H1 owner for fun puting his H1 on its side with no noticeable damage. I say that because he keeps doing it for people. I have the clip. And can email it to whoever wants to see it. I don't think I can post it here.Sorry I've got to find it now that I said I had it http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif Thanks Seth! I forgot to use the word moron in the search.

Didn't the genius know atleast one of his front tires were supposed to stay on the ground!!!

Ever use an articulation ramp?

On an H1 or an H2, you will end up with one wheel off the ground when using an articulation ramp. It's inherent due to the independent suspension on the trucks....more so on the H1 than the H2.

I have seen picture of a H1 in the Phoenix area that rollover do 50 MPH on a dirt road. No damage to the H1 at all. They just roll it back over and went on down the road with it.

Seth, what's worse is the dumb arse walked away from the truck http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif. I guess he forgot about the passenger http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif.

You have to really try hard to flip an H1. I've been in some pretty sticky situations where as the driver you feel dam uneasy only to find out that your not even close to flipping. I've never seen a flip first hand but the few times I've heard about it usually involve extreme slopes and complete tire failure, bead break, no runflats, etc.

The one story I've heard had an h1 roll over and down a steep hill. Understand the roll cage held and the truck though banged up pretty bad was driveable, in fact they drove it the remainder of the weekend trail ride w.o. problem. Still I suspect a big part of what damage is done is what and where you roll. On sand or soft dirt your damage will be less than rolling on heavy rock or in to tree's. etc. Lots of variables in answering the question. Regardless not something I'm sure any of us want to discover.

My 96 Hummer was rolled, bought it used, never knew about it until talking with the original owner.
There was no visble damage, although the top had minor dents which were fixed. He said not even the mirrors broke!
They are certianly tough, considering mine weighs 8400lbs.

I have seen pics of a white H1 wagon on it's roof, and no damage. They really only get damaged when one has a roof rack installed, then it pokes holes in the roof.

Wow!!! The stories of H1 rollovers are amazing.

I ran a couple of H1's up and down some pretty steep dunes and then powered sideways across them and it never felt like it was even close to going over.

That is probably because you were not on a surface as steep as what is shown in the pictures above. It really is simple physics.

And yes, I would love to see some video action of that H1 coming down the hill too!

Actually, there is really no way anyone could accurately determine the slope of a hill from pictures unless you were able to catch it at the right angle.

I can provide three pictures of hills (with Hummers in them, of course) that look just as steep, but were well within the limits of the H1's abilities.

Here's one pic that looks steeper than it is (Forest Road 42 in Phoenix):
http://www.azhog.org/jan_2004_box_canyon/cferber_clubphoto_files/28785619-0616-01800200-.jpg

And for a interesting pictorial, here's pics of the same hill (Saguaro Lake Cove #1 in Phoenix) from different views:

From the bottom-

From the top-
http://www.azhog.org/april2004_hummerhelps/IMG_0050.jpg

From the side-
http://www.azhog.org/april2004_hummerhelps/IMG_0043.jpg

The last picture shows the true angle of the hill. The other two don't.

Hmm...instead of having everyone click the links, here's the pics embedded into the same post...

This is Forest Road 42 in Phoenix. It looks a lot steeper than it actually is.
http://www.azhog.org/jan_2004_box_canyon/cferber_clubphoto_files/28785619-0616-01800200-.jpg

These following pictures are from Saguaro Lake, Cove #1, which is in the Rolls OHV area of the Tonto National Forest.

Picture #1 shows this hill from the bottom up:
http://www.azhog.org/april2004_hummerhelps/IMG_0037.jpg

Picture #2 shows the hill from the top down:
http://www.azhog.org/april2004_hummerhelps/IMG_0050.jpg

Picture #3 shows the angle of the hill from the top of the hill, angled from the side. This picture shows the slope of the hill more accurately.
http://www.azhog.org/april2004_hummerhelps/IMG_0043.jpg

And here's pictures from Box Canyon/Martinez Canyon (Near Florence, Arizona). This small hill looks steep from this picture:
http://www.azhog.org/august_2004_fj_funrun/38383189-23f1-02000180-R.jpg

But in reality, this is what the hill looks like in it's entirety:

I'd love to hear the whole story behind that roll-over...I've only heard bits and pieces. What I did hear is that it was at Hungry Valley (Gorman) and it was a newbie trip. Unfortunately, because of this screw-up several of the steep-fun hills have been closed to jeeps and trucks and are now for cycles only. Fortunately there are many other crazy hills to play on nearby.

The story as I understand it is that the H1 in question got stuck sideways due to a slightly inexperienced driver.

In a fit of insanity, the truck was attempted to be winched from the downhill side. (!) The subesequent winching was unsuccessful. The vehicle was then tow strapped to right it, and it continued flipping down from there.
