Yep.. sometimes I wish the H2 had the 45gal tank that my Sub has.

On the way in I noticed premium gas prices ranging from $1.65 to $1.94.. This was within a 2 mile strip.

I do not know if the Gas stations in your area do the same. But around here many put a $50.00 cap per CC transaction at the pump. This bites, because when the price is over $1.50 @ gallon you can't fill up.

I had the same problem with my F250 Powerstroke.
I had to stop it at $50 and then start up another transaction.

I finally got smart, and would full up when my tank was half-empty or half-full (for you optimists).

Why not try filling when you reach half, and all your worries will be gone.
You should only have this fill up problem one last time in your life if you follow the half rule.

Why would it matter. It is a gas guzzler and there is not a need to calculate fuel economy. Just drive it and fill it up when the light comes on and tells you that you are almost out of gas.

Have to. Prevents detenation, thus keeps the
knock sensor from retarding the timing.

Besides, it is highly recommended with a SC.
Tahoe gets regular and gets around 13mpg.

Phil, I am glad you brought that issue up of octane. I have the air box, headers and exhaust on my H2 and I have the Predator tuning system. I have the tune in from there programer and have used the real time data system to monitor the knock retart readings from the ECU, I run regular 87 octane and with WOT have no KRTiming at all. So Phil is correct save your money unless it is 105 temp and or you have a SC.

Everyone must buy and use high octane. It is better for your engine and will increase gas mileage. You also will not have to change your oil as often and the air in your tires will not need to be rotated nearly as often. Only about every ten thousand miles or so. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I owned a Texaco several years ago and believe me, all my customers needed premium. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Seriously, though, my station was not in the best part of town and I sold a butt load of premium as a percentage compared to other owners in more affluent neighborhoods. Go figure...

Hey, PhilD - A question about the octane thing. I understand the higher compression thing relative to higher octane but how does the higher octane enter into the programer settings. I recently put on the Superchips programer and their "Performance/Towing" setting requires 91 premium gas. Funny thing is that this weekend we filled the rig up with about half a tank if regular because I was going to reprogram it to the lower setting to use regular fuel. We went from 10.6 mpg to 11.5 mpg after putting in the regular and not touching the programer yet. I'm thinking of trying to run at the "Performance" setting with regular fuel to see how it does. Has anyone out there tried this yet?

The computer knows when the tech resets for an oil change, also when you get gas it resets your max trip length and I'm sure a lot more. But does anyone know when the Average Econ is triped or is it based on total millage or recalulated on some unknown numbers of miles.

YOu can manually reset it by paging to that display then holding down the return button. as far as I can tell it does a running average e.g. it calculated the average based on a certian number of data points (mostlikely limited by memory in the computer) and averages in the new data as it is recieved.
For example it might use a 16 point running average where it sums the mileage for the 16 points including the new data then divides by 16. that number could be 16000 for that matter. thats why you will see the average change rapidly immediately after resetting it and it will slow its change after it has been collecting data for a longer period of time.
The data point are based on fuel flow and distance driven. both which are measured by the computer and used for many of the functions that you have on the rig. in the olden days the instantaineous mileage was based on engine vacuum once teh sensor was calibrated to the vehicle.

30,000 miles,
I get about 9 mpg around town (I do a LOT of short hops, since I live 4 miles from my work).

I get about 12 mpg on the highway.

By the way, I just reset my Personal trip readings for every tank full. That way I always get a good indication of how things are running (mpg-wise) per each tank.

I also use the Business trip settings for any lengthy trip. That way I get an idea of what my whole trip economy is.

First 6K, 11.0 MPG; last 10.5K (since adding 6" lift, 38x15.50, road armor bumpers and brush guards front and rear, 12K hydro winch, 5th wheels equalling about 1000 lbs. and killing the aerodynamics) average is down to 9.1 MPG and dropping!!! (but speedo is not recalibrated). How much of a difference does having everything recalibrated matter ? Would doing a super charger, headers, exhaust, intake, chip, and gears make a worthwhile difference (3MPG or more) ?

Like you I calmly asked them were they lived, the answer was La. I asked how many trips to Las Vegas do you make per year? Answer twice a month. So I said on top of your joy rides to Vegas, you average what like 400 miles a week too and from work? One of the idiots barked out hell I drive 1k per week.

Trying not to laugh I told them both I don't put a thousand miles a month on my truck so who is polluting more, who is using more gas? With a flurry of cuss words they jumped back in there rice burner and peeled out of the gas station.

2003 H2 35K Miles, Superchip, AirRaid, Borla Exh w/ resonators chopped off and straight dual 4" pipe from the muffler back, Stock tires and rims. Getting 8-9mpg city, 18-20 on the freeway if I avg 80-90mph. Go to and from SanDiego and Northern Cal at 80-100mph when I can, even with the trans in down shift mode because the accelerator pressed so far, and do the math on the calculator at the gas station, and it is religiously 18-20 mpg. Even pulling 2000 lbs of Jet Skiis at 70-75mph I still get 15mpg. Go Figure. I DO drive a bit aggressive in the city (I grew up driving in Boston) But on the freeway, I think it's because of the lack of backpressure with the resonators gone, the motor breathes real nice on the freeway. The truck LOVES to get out and run!
