I got lucky today. Hall is having an HH tomorrow celebrating the opening of the new building. I was told they'd have an H3 so I took a chance and drove by. It was there and Chris was kind enough to let me take some pics and crawl around.

I like it. So did the three people walking up the sidewalk who stopped and asked questions. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This truck has been to 27 dealerships and only has 200 miles on it. How do they keep the miles down? GM doesn't give the dealership a key to the Stant gas cap! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I'm not a fan of red, but this looks very nice. With all the talk about the clearance, I admit I was pleased with what I saw. It had more than I expected. The truck also looked "nimble" in it's stance.

KenP
05-16-2005, 04:53 PM
I also like how the tailgate has a hydraulic opener. Once it starts to open you don't have to assist it.

KenP
05-16-2005, 04:55 PM
Too bad there isn't one on the hood. That baby was heavy. No fiberglass up there.

KenP
05-16-2005, 04:56 PM
I was also impressed with the ample leg room up front. I'm 6'4" and about 245lbs and had no trouble with the seats or headroom. Unfortunately, this truck had cloth seats and no power.

KenP

Here's a pic of the center stack. I like the way it looks and it appears very functional.

KenP
05-16-2005, 04:58 PM
I wasn't impressed with the location of the HomeLink.

KenP
05-16-2005, 05:00 PM
Last pic. I hope this helps. If anyone has any specifics pics they would like pics of, let me know. I will be seeing this truck again tomorrow.

BTW, this truck did have the tire pressure monitor.

Is that the proprod for the hood? If so, the production ones will have gas struts for the hood. No proprod. Makes a big difference.

HoKC
05-16-2005, 05:25 PM
I think it must be a preproduction model, the underhood area looks to be in two colors.

HummerNewbie
05-16-2005, 05:31 PM
I hadn't noticed before but what are the two circles at the bottom of the center stack. Looks like 12V power outlets to the right and maybe rear wiper control to the left. Doesn't have a rear wiper though does it?

H3 Builder
05-16-2005, 05:45 PM
I believe that you are right about the 12v power. I believe that there is one in the back, also. As far as the color, They aren't clearcoating only the parts that show. Under the hood isn't one of them. Also, I think it was the lighting.

KenP
05-16-2005, 05:59 PM
That is a proprod. Thank goodness the production model will have struts. The hood has some heft to it.

Those are 12v outlets at the bottom of the center stack.

This truck did not have a rear wiper.

The color difference is the lighting. They appeared the same in person.

HummerNewbie
05-16-2005, 06:26 PM
Didn't think they came with rear wipers. Since it isn't a rear wiper control, what is that at the bottom left of the center stack? And what is between that and the 12v outlets? I believe every photo I have seen the shifter is in the way.

Thanks Ken. Each time I see new pics of the H3 I like it more. Curious about the power though with the inline 5.

what are those two things on either side of the hood right in front of the windshield... they look like covered vents ya know? what is that?

PARAGON
05-16-2005, 07:03 PM
That's a rear wiper control on the left. If you look at the interior of the rear door, there is a "bump" rising in the plastic panel where the rear wiper will be.

HummerNewbie
05-16-2005, 08:33 PM
Thanks Paragon. In the photo from the right rear it does look like you can make out a possible wiper blade sticking out from behind the spare. Does anyone know what that is between the rear wiper control and the 12v outlets?

I love all the chrome, especially the gas cap!
I think many people (ignorant) will not be able to tell the difference between this and the H2. Especially from head on.

The 2 buttons are for the dealer optional grill lights and the optional roof lights. I believe that they all have rear wipers.

This is some photo enhancement. I am sure Ken could email me the full sized image and I could extrapolate even a better representation, but no pixels were added, just some enhancingto better show the wiper arm. So this should show some proof of the wiper arm.

Thanks,

Builder,

Thanks for clearing it up for us. Kind of odd positioning for the buttons isn't it?

For those who have seen it in person, how is it to get in and out of. I wasn't going to get the side step but damn it looks good in chrome on the red one. Not a concern for me but the wife is only 4'11" and thinking she would certainly prefer having them. I wasn't planning on getting them because I plan on going wheeling with it whenever possible.

Although I realize it cannot be compared "apples to apples" to any other SUV on the market, but what -- regarding size -- would you compare the H3 to?

I know, I COULD go look up the sizes of all the other SUV's on the market with the H3 stats, but I am WAY too lazy for that! And, why go to the trouble when I can get someone to tell me that has seen it first-hand? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

HummerNewbie: Definitely get the side step. It's a high step in without one and I'm 5'11".
LoLo: I would compare it in size to the Toyota Sequoia but slightly taller or maybe a Trailblazer and a lot taller.

It was the Adventure package. The interior looked to be same as the photo on the website in the section (H3 Highlights on the Inside) No leather. My kids loved it. I had to pull them away. It does have rear wiper. The back seat was very roomy. Big enough for two car seats. Can't wait to get mine next week. I think the 4-Runner would be a close comparison but the H3 looks bigger.

Hey guys,

Ken is @ the dealership and wanted me to relay that the wheels on that particular H3 are 33" w/ chrome which is not factory or an option. The aforementioned 2 switches are blanks and the dealers at this point are unaware of the particular funtion.

Funpilot-

They have viewed the forum ( got a giggle )and said that everything is way cool and they understand. They said if you are interested to come check it out today 5/17 prior to 5:30pm. There is a Hummer Happening/ new showroom opening @ 6:00. Trust me the guys up there are genuine when they say that. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The thought is GM produced the vehicle, and others like it, to look good and garner attention. It seems to have done the trick as this truck was seen by over 30 people yesterday who were just driving down the street. There is one exception, I guess it was loadedh3 that stopped by with the kids. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

DAJC and DRTY, you remember the stories about us cruising in the H2. It took her awhile before she realized others couldn't see her through the windows. The whole time she thought people were staring at her. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Yep, about the sametime she started hating the H2. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

WOW Co-Pilot
Now I really do want to know if You have a sister that has Your looks and would like a nice comfortable lifestyle with lot's of travel and sports and what ever the heck She wants. I already have a big cabin cruiser, sorry no sailing to slow do not like it or at least not right now. That could change also. But anyway crusier is at the most elite and plush marina We have around and if She looks like You would really make the bow look good running around the huge lake and on the 4th watching fireworks of the top deck etc. etc. etc. etc.
I bet I could arrange for Her own H3 or who cares an H2. Oh well, it is just wishful http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif thinking and really meant as a compliment to You. But, I sort of knew anyway about You anyway. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Ken...I am completely embarassed....honest, never knew she was a woman, let alone your wife......OOPS comes to mind, along with FORGIVE ME. I just don't participate here wondering about the gender of the participant, just the value of their input. My confusion is so great I confused her with another person on our board from Great Bridge, like me, as well. Guess it is time to put me out to pasture.

Such nice pics here...thought I would post one of my backyard project. This is a koi pond I built last summer. I have added a waterwheel and am now building a waterfall.

Pilot, that's a pretty sweet area. I bet the kids would love to play around the house. Judging by the size of the yard I'd have to guess your 'hood stretches between Centerville and Battlefield. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
