Awesome Mojave trip

We went out to the desert with the horses and the Hummer. Jeep folks should know this - the horses can go places the Hummer AND Jeep can't. LOL If anyone is interested in takeing the Mojave Road anytime soon, let me know. It is an incredible ride - easy except for the occasional soft deep sand and VERY occasional mud. But the history of the road is amazing. It still looks like it did in the mid 1800's when it was a major wagontrain/stagecoach route. I'll post some more pics when I get 'em ready......

Another pic.....and no, that is not snow! It is SALT! Soda Dry Lake is not so dry - there is some pretty serious mud in places - and the water brings a lot of salt to the surface. You MUST get a good undercarriage wash as soon as possible after getting back to civilization. Again, this is far from an "extreme" trail, but the history and beauty are unparallelled!

Okay - this thing is loaded to the max! The trailer w/3 horses was approaching 6500 pounds - and then there was the family, 50 gallons of horse water, all the camping equipment, etc. And it hauled like a champ - even down a pretty sandy "dirt" road. All of the looks we got on the way there were priceless.

I was there last year! Right around this time of the year too, think it was like 120+ and if i idle too long the outside temp will read 130+ http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif i guess the sensor must be too close to the engine or something...

Let me know if you ever need volunteers, I have worked with horses all my life, and as a local (valencia) have heard a lot about your organization, its awesome what you do!!! I would love to help out in any way I can.

Lemme clarify...I did NOT take the trailer down the trail! LOL Only down the dirt roads approaching the trail into the Rasor OHV area where we camped the first night - and Mrs. Fox took it around and down to the Afton Cmpgrnd for the second night's camp. As for the temps...YEP! We got a 120 reading late in the afternoon. I know it was a little high, but it had to have been in the "hundred teens" at any rate. We were done with the horseback ride before the absolutely hottest part of the day, but it was well over 100 when we got them to the water in Afton Canyon! As a basecamp for a horseback adventure, the H2 RULES!

I am not a part of an organization. You are probably thinking of Carousel - which IS an organization offering "horse therapy" for handicapped and troubled children. Yes, they are awesome. I do it on my own and, if I ever need a volunteer, I'll remember your offer!

Any time you want, there are tons of great trails locally, including some right by Home Depot on Soledad...(accross the street)

Let me know if you want to go, I can go just about anytime, and can almost always get a few of the other locals to go on short notice.
