Just finished/won an Ebay bid for this Genuine Hummer fuel door. I know this item was discussed a couple of weeks ago and some were asking about the availability. The local dealer here in Las Vegas knows nothing about this fuel door.

This is the picture/ebay site.

I don't see any decription that says this is a Hummer factory fuel door. I do not think OEM means Hummer. What makes you think it is from Hummer? Regardless, it is nice.

SOCRATES(Hummer Veteran) posted on 2-1-4 "BEst Billet Fuel Door" and picture that match the pics on Ebay. He discribes it as the "Genuine Hummer Fuel Door" and asked if anyone knew when it would be available.

The pictures match but there is no discription. Thats why I made this post.

thank for your reply.

Troy,

Yes, the door you have won is a Genuine Hummer fuel door.

OEM refers to "Original Equipment Maufacturer," so yes, you are bidding on the Genuine item.

This item is currently available on Hummer-Parts.com for $158.00 -- Hummer Fuel Door Link (https://www.hummer-parts.com/product_info.php/products_id/466?osCsid=1c3cd12203f9b6c3b08727b4300dd25d)

Post some pictures after you install it!

Best Regards,
-Justyn

The door which is manufactured by AMP RESEARCH is now only sold through GM and is not available through SMA. It is identical to the SMA / AMP RESEARCH DOOR but with the added HUMMER LOGO.

One change to the new door that many do not know is that its now made of metal instead of billet aluminum. It also comes with a locking replacement gas cap. Just a little heads up before everyone runs out and buys one! BIG-C http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey Big C,
Do you know if the locking gas cap that comes with that new fuel door will fit an 03? From what I have read the gas caps are different on the 03's and 04's and are not interchangeable. Also whats the deal with the metal fuel door as opposed to billet aluminum? Will the metal one pit and rust faster than the billet?

Thanks for info on the metal door----They did not say that and I am concerned that it may be inferior!

Spike,

The gas caps are different from the 03 to the 04. The locking gas cap that comes with the new gm fuel door only fits the 04. I could be wrong as it is a bit early to make hasty statments but I have yet to see one that would fit an 03. BIG-C

H2mildandwild,

The fuel door looks the same from the outside and operates like the old one but it is a different feel when opening and closing it. Its easy to tell that billet aluminum was not used. Now did anyone think that GM would use real billet aluminum on a production vehicle? Not!! BIG-C http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Take the fuel door away from SMA and give to GM---what a fool I was to think it might not be crap!!! GM never surpises me anymore. I have not had a GM vehicle since 1975. My new Hummer rolled off the lot and started to rattle after 30 miles were on the OD. I love the damn thing--just bought my second H2 buy not because it is a GM product.

For all interested, I called AMP Research today and spoke at length with a guy there that I met at SEMA, Las Vegas.

The OEM door is cast aluminum, not metal. It is not CNC machined like the SMA door because GM will not pay for CNC'd parts. He claims that from the outside, you will not tell the difference. The open door is not as pretty because you will see casting marks--GM will not pay to clean that up either.

I have the origional SMA chrome fuel door and will order the OEM one from Hummer-partss.com. Then I will put them side by side and see if the guy is right.

Thanks for the info! I did not do the research like you did. When you feel and touch the door it feels like pot metal. Billet aluminum would have been nice but it does look the same from the outside. I think after all the newness wears off we will see some very affordable pricing on this fuel door. A billet door has to cost more to make! BIG-C

This fuel door is what comes on the new Victory Red H2's. It is a GM part and dealers should be able to order them from the factory now that the Victory Red's are out.

Got mine from Hummer-parts today ($158.38), very easy to install. HUGE before&after impact. Didn't install the locking cap (becuase it has no tether).

Here in sunny SoCal, pitting is not a concern. IMHO VERY HAPPY WITH IT! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

NOC, my driveway is at an angle, haven't bothered to check (eyeball looks OK). The door is held by 3 plastic tabs (snap-in) instead of screwed in like the original. Therefore, quite easy to 'wiggle' straight, if necc. Thanks for the heads-up!

Good call Noc, definitely high on the right side.

You guys bugged me enough to check. Looks really ok! (compared the horizontal design with top of rear bumper). Here's another angle shot:

Thats better! We can't have members of this forum riding around with cockeyed fuel doors. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I had a chance to see the new Victory red color with the chrome options. The fuel door is definitely CHEAP looking, compared to the billet ones that are available. Their chrome sidesteps were already pitted. I hate to say it, but it looked as though the items were cheap imports. I will gladly pay a little extra to go through the "well-known" aftermarket guys who are building it bigger & better. I was really looking forward to the Victory red with chrome accessories, but it turned out to be a major disapointment.

Excellent fit, shine, and MOST importantly, from design point of view -- looks like a Hummer H2 ORIGINAL (and not an expensive-but-cheap-LOOKING tack-on aftermarket which design doesn't even match the wheels!).

Again, in SoCal, pitting is not a big concern, especially since this part rides higher (hence, less exposure to road moisture/salt) than typically problematic chrome parts (ie. wheels, sidesteps, etc).

Too, if they do pit badly, I'd spray-paint/powder-coat it flat black, & it will still look great (& original). IMHO.

So, I just got the H2 fuel door for my 03. I have everything apart and have one question. Does the bucket get screwed into? Or do the screws just go around the brim of it?

I have the MC2 fuel door currently installed. I jumped the gun and ordered the OEM Fuel door only to find out the cap tetherless http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Has anyone figured out a way to add a tether to the gas cap?
