Thanks for the post. Might buy one considering how cold it was here in Anchorage last winter.

I know there was a huge discussion about cold weather operation of the wipers...and the general consensus was that we needed something....

I remember seeing these at a car show about 5 years ago.... Something about shooting hot water on a frozen windshield doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Since the announced "Limited-Edition Pacific Blue Hummer" has a heated wiper system, I wonder how difficult it would be to retrofit it to older H2s?

Anyone here know anything about retrofitting newer parts/options in older trucks? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Limited-Edition Pacific Blue Hummer Debuts
Date Posted 09-27-2005

DETROIT — A 2006 limited edition of the Hummer H2, in SUV and sport-utility-truck (SUT) versions, goes on sale this week with a new color choice and unique features.

The price of the SUV version of the Pacific Blue edition will start at $65,900, Hummer said. SUT pricing on the special model will start at $65,455. The Pacific Blue SUV and SUT will have a combined production of 875 units, the GM brand said.

The package features a body-color grille and fender moldings, brush and taillamp guards with a special finish, a rocker molding with an integrated assist step, 17-inch polished forged-aluminum wheels, carbon-fiber interior accents and a lower-profile, roof-mounted light bar. The package also has chrome hood handles, hood latches and a fuel-filler door.

In addition, the special edition has a heated windshield wiper system and a rear-seat DVD system with dual headrest-mounted screens and wireless headphones.

What this means to you: Hummer is working to keep people interested in its brand.

LOL yea true but last winter was something special let me tell ya.

I don't see anything wrong with what I'd say is semi-hot windshield fluid shooting on your window unless it's -60 F or something like that.

Didn't know the Pacific Blue Hummer comes standard with it. Wonder if it helps resale? If I install I'll let you know how it went, maybe post instructions.

Here is the site for Hot Shot.
http://www.buyhotshot.com/default.asp

This is the unit they use in the special addition. I had one on the 04 H2 I just sold and it worked great for two winters in Michigan.
Real easy to hook up. You can also get them put in at Auto One and many other aftermarket stores.

Any idea if they are going to use a different button from the one that came with the unit? I know the buick lesabre and Cadillac DTS will have the units too...

I just bought the HotShot. Any good idea's as to where to mount the unit and button?
Also, anyone know where the button on the Pacific Blue is mounted?

http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif was just about to post the same question NJ. I'm thinking about mounting the button just below the rear wiper control knob. If I can, I'll run the wire right down into the crack. As far as the heating unit, thinking about snipping the side tabs on the bracket, bending the top tabs at 90 degrees and mounting it on the L-bracket the goes around the top of the washer reservoir (where the hood bumper/support is also attached. Unless there's a better idea, I figure it should be enough out of the way..

Other question: which hose do we attach the heater to? The left or the right (the ones to the right of the washer reservoir)?

dochummer

Ok, the yellow box is where I'm thinking to mount the heater unit. The heater is supposed to go inline between the washer pump and the nozzles. So, which hose do I need to splice into? The red or blue? or both? Thanks for the help guys! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I mounted mine on the firewall in the area of the yellow x, but I don't remember which hose. It was two years ago. I mounted the button below the rear washer control.

I will see if any of our local dealers have the limited addition that I can look at to see how they mounted it.

Right side. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok, got everything installed, but messed up on my power point. I connected to the upper left stud under the fuse cover (I thought there was power, but then there wasn't...don't know which fuse to look at). So I switched to the upper right fuse...it started working, but then stopped. Blew the fuse...it's a 30amp...so have to get a new one. So, now the question is...can I attach the power line to the power post/stud on the left side of the fuse block? The lower one doesn't read power, but the upper one does. It's marked as B+ in the diagram.... Any thoughts before I blow another fuse? (oh, the one that came with the unit is a 60amp...that's why I blew the stud #2. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

dochummer

Ok, finished it. I connected it to the B+ terminal and it works. The only thing that doesn't work is the automatic setting. It says it doesn't have water flowing in when it's on the auto setting. I'll have to call tech support tomorrow. It works just fine manually though. Hey dick, did yours work on "automatic" when you had yours?

Ok, this is where I messed up... Don't do it the way it's pictured here. I tried the two posts on the top...didn't notice the second one had a 30amp fuse on it...so after blowing the first and second...finally attached it to the B+ post...the top one along the left side of the fuse box. This one has a 125amp? on it. Haven't blown that fuse yet...

Oh...anybody know where the fuse is for the left post on the top side of the fuse box? The right one was easy to see blown...but I don't know where the left one is...

I was too lazy to "mount" the inline fuse for the hotshot...so I just tied it down...

All done! I attached the ground to the convenient screw to the right of the hood latch. Took me longer than I would have liked...but this was the first time working on electrical stuff on this rig...and I was trying to keep the 16month old from crawling underneath the vehicle....kids...

Now I just have to check on the automatic setting for the hotshot. It wasn't working properly...but everything else is.

I have exactly the same problem. I will call tech support also to figure this out. The manual says it needs to be primed by activating the regular washer fluid to fill up HotShot the first time. I did that and used half the fluid in the tank and it still didn't work!
Let me know if you find out anything.
Thanks,
Jim

OK, here is what I found out. Since we have dual washers (front and back) we need to install a bypass kit. Tech support is sending me 1 right away. Everything is still OK to use in Manual Setting in the mean time.
This is what they are sending me:

and here is the link to the tech website:

Hey Doc,
No Charge for parts or shipping! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I told them someone else has the same problem and would be calling for the same parts and he said no problem.
I forgot his name but for some reason I think it's the same as mine, Jim.
Call this # 800-555-4518 hit 0 for the operator and ask them to page Tech support. I waited on hold for 20 min before I hung up and hit 0, they picked up right away after getting paged.

Awe..How did you get it for free? I spoke with the guy..he said "is this jim?" I said "no, but probably the guy I've been talking to with the same problem." He told me that I would probably need the extra parts...come to think of it...it probably wasn't Jim that I talked to. Oh well...told me the kit would cost $4.00 plus shipping. So I checked around here locally without any luck and then called the order department. Just got a fax, and it says the kit is $2.00...they're going to try and just first class it to me instead of paying for ups... Oh well....just a couple of bucks..I actually got two kits...I might install one on my wife's vehicle...

Guys:

I am guessing that at some point the line to the rear window nozzle passes under the vehicle with the other fore/aft piping. That means in subzero weather you must keep moving a column of heated fluid through chilled piping until you heat the piping sufficiently that it doesn't cool the fluid to the point of being ineffective in removing ice. My guess is that it would require at least two complete flushes of the rearward piping to work. I don't think the HotShot holds that much fluid. Doesn't seem very efficient to me.

I'd be curious to hear from someone who has used the rear bypass kit on an H2 in severe weather.

Let me say that I'm having the HotShot installed for use with my front washers to remove ice when I go hunting this winter. I understand it works very well in that mode.

George SSSS

dochummer

The bypass actually isn't for the rear washer. It allows the hotshot pump to draw fluid directly from the reservoir. If it doesn't have the direct flow, then the pump can't pull the water through because of the "one-pump" setup. If it can't get enough flow, then the auto setting is useless...

In the end...just helps get the unit working properly for the front windshield only...

Just make sure when you/whomever installs it, you need to get the bypass kit for it to operate properly in the H2. Like NJH2 said...you should be able to get it free...otherwise $2.00.
