I know this has been discussed before and I did a search but couldn't find the info. Are the dealer installed options such as side steps tied to the vehicle on their invoice? I know they are shipped to the dealer then added there but. Basically what I am asking is if they have a unit on the lot that has an option like the side steps and they are on the window sticker, they should be able to remove and deduct the price right? In a brief discussion a salesman (mine wasn't there) told me they couldn't. I don't think this is true but wanted to double check. Don't see why that can't just remove the option, deduct the price and add it to another vehicle on the lot. Also, has anyone installed the Terk XM adaptor to a Monsoon or other H3 system? Thanks for any info.

so are you actually wanting the steps on yours or not.....i would say to go ahead and get the steps because then it will come with the rocker protection, then just sell me the steps http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
if the 3 you want doesn't have them and you want them tell the salesman steps and rockers are to be put into the deal or you wont sign....
more to the point the steps are not on the original window sticker they are a dealer add-on, so yes they can be removed from the 3 and price reduced accordingly...
and make sure you get the adv or offroad package, it has the locker and gearing, even if you don't wheel, better for resale

It can be done but the dealer is going to fight you on that. The best thing to do is negotiate on the price and maybe get a discount on the vehicle.

LV,
Thanks for the reply. I thought they could be removed and deducted. I don't want the steps so I want them removed. If you have the steps you don't get the rocker protection, they are not compatible OEM. I am thinking I will see if they will remove the steps and add rocker protection instead. The one I am looking at is an adventure. I am most likely going to lease because I am always ready for a change within a few years and I can save my cash for some other projects.

Mike, you must have posted while I was typing earlier and I didn't notice yours. I am going in with the GMID so not much negotiating will be going on.
LV,
I am talking about the "TUBULAR ASSIST STEPS" and I agree, they are worthless. They are just going to get in my way and I will never use them. Actually tried getting in last night using them and it was so damn awkward. Are you talking about the U-shaped assist steps? The OEM side (tube) steps and rocker protection are not compatible without modification to the mounting bracket for the step but the U-shaped assist steps are compatible with the rocker protection.

ahhh, much confusion, i am talking the u-step, only step they should offer in MHO,
they have too many options now with the 3 different ways to go.
if that is the 3 you want, tell them to trade steps for what you want, you are the one with the check book

Hi guys, this is our first post since buying our H3 just before christmas of 2005. The chrome tubular steps were included on our msrp invoice at a price of $650.00 and said to be installed by dealer. We have the luxury package with the off road suspension package which includes the larger tires, chrome package and chrome cross rails on top. Msrp was roughly $39,000 after we had the roof rails put on. We paid roughly $35,000 plus tax, title and license. We both like the tubular steps and find that it makes it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. No problems so far.

Just looked at the paper work, MSRP was roughly $39.000, We paid $33,920 with everything listed in previous post.

congrats on the new 3 and welcome, you are correct in saying that the chrome tube steps are on the original window sticker, as that is part of the lux chrome package.

Tube steps of any sort are not part of any package. The chrome appearance package includes mirrors and door handle pulls.
Some dealers will not give back full credit for RPAs (dealer-installed options). Many will give partial credit, though.

The suspense is killing me! Are you going to be able to get your H3 soon?
In answer to your question, our dealer said that they could remove dealer installed items and give credit. Didn't say 100% though.
On our sticker, the chrome package, which is door handles and mirrors are listed as a factory item. The chrome assist step is listed under dealer installed items.
We like the steps but they take some practice. Just put the outside foot on the step, step up and duck at the same time, and swing the inside foot and butt in.
They really look good as you can see on HRLY's gorgeous black H3.
Needless to say that the accessories are a huge profit item for dealers and they tend to load them up here in Southern California.
Best regards, Happy Jack

Well, I am looking but it depends on what they come back with. Didn't really have exactly what I wanted on the lot so may have to go the order route.
I tried using the steps and at 6'2" they just don't work for me.
Accessories are definitely a huge profit for dealers. I noticed a red one sitting there last night that look very familiar. It had been there since early July. They put some much crap on it that the sticker was now $46K http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif They wanted $1,300 or $1,400 for the cheap chrome overlays for the hood vent http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Side steps as well as many other items can be sold in two different ways.
One, as part of the MSRP and they are on the MSRP label. These are known as RPAs, and now they are installed by an outside firm for most dealers. The price for install and the part are figured into the MSRP of the vehicle.
The other way is to sell them as a dealer installed accessory. Sold this way, the dealer can charge whatever they please for installation and the part.
Remember, the dealer if they installed the item, paid a technician to install them, and would have to pay the technician to remove 'em. Technicians don't like to work for free.
If they are a dealer installed accessory, noted by label other than the MSRP label shipped from the plant, make an arrangement to pay for the installation and removal, but not the part.
Or, have the dealer locate the exact vehicle you want.

Purchased one of my H-3's that the FACTORY STICKER said brush guard but the DEALER hadn't put it on yet, didn't want it so it (price) came off the contract. Also traded FLAT BLACK SIDE STEPS FOR ROUND BLACK STEPS ALREADY ON THE TRUCK The flat are a little lower price so I let the dealer (FACTORY STICKER) keep the higher price on the black round steps to cover Labor Changover. Ya gota be fair...

I was in the same boat. Was at the dealer, ready to buy, but they didn't have an adventure, auto, black, monsoon, with no accessories.
After discussing it with the sales guy, I had them take off the brush guard, roof rails, and tube steps. I didn't want to wait, so the dealer actually gave me a 'We owe you' slip with the parts removed. Saved me $2k for the cost, and I got to drive the hummer off the lot with the stuff on it and bring it back later for removal (bought on a Sunday, no techs to remove). I paid almost sticker, but they were super-flexible on the accessory removal.
