I really love the "blocky" design of the chrome wheels, but I hate chrome wheels. So what? Paint it black! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Rear view... btw. I also had my bumpers and mirror-caps painted.

Nice!

For some odd reason, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the chrome "logo" on the wheels, but ****, I think that's awesome! I like it!

I wanted to reduce the bling to decent minimum... but totally black wasn't my cup of tea neither. So with black mirror caps and black rims, but a lot of small chrome details, that's exactly the look I was after. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

What steps did you take to get it painted? I have been wanting to do this exact thing for mine. Very excited to hear your reply.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I will post more high quality pics in the gallery section once the brushguard and the offroad-lamps have been installed (i.e. when the car is entirely finished).

The rims do NOT need to be "de-chromized" by some acid or toxic substance. It is sufficient to just rough their surface heavily. Then they put on a special primer, which has the specific purpose to fix paint on pre-roughed, but chromed metal surfaces. From there it's a standard paint procedure with a clear coat finish.

They had done this a dozen times on chrome surfaces so they gave me a lifetime guarantee that the paint won't come off... and since I've worked with them a couple of times on other cars before, I highly trust them.

The logo on the center-caps was well covered during that whole process to remain chrome in its exact shape.

Sweet...do you mind passing on the contact so I can look to getting the same thing done. Feel free to send me a private message if you don't want to post it. Is it a very expensive process?

They also don't have a website (stoneage right there). http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I could pass on their phone number to you if you still want it though.

So, what's the red and white light for on the back under the bumper?

The white light on the right side underneath the bumper is the "new" reverse gear light.

The red light on the left side is a "fog signal lamp" which you're required by law to have in Germany. You need to turn it on in heavy fog and it shines extremly bright (brighter than the brake lights) so your vehicle can still be identified even in heavy fog.
