I noticed right after I got my H3 that there was a dent in the roof. Was going to mention it to the dealer but forgot about it. Today outside my office was another H3 and I noticed it had the same dent in the same spot. You only notice it if you are above the vehicle. Does everyone have this dent?

Is this you Lotus? It is outside my office in Lake Mary.

That sucks I would have it fixed asap(hope they can).
You should have told them originaly, they might tell you it happened after you left dealer.
Good luck.
I have a view of my roof through my window no dents yet.

Looks like someone dropped something while it was getting unloaded/loaded from the delivery truck... definately should get fixed by the dealer.

I agree, should have told them immediately. I just find it very odd that the H3 in the photos above has the exact same dent in the exact same location. The reason I forgot to tell the dealer in that you never see it unless you are above the vehicle.

hey Newbie, i've got the same dent in the same spot. because i've seen more than one in the same spot, i suspect the shipping rack or tooling at the asm plant. i saw the same dent from my bedroom window the other day and went down to check it out and it was gone!! your right, you don't see it unless your above it. you don't feel too much of a "low" in that area, i wonder if it's characteristic of the sheet metal? if it was "oil canned", it would just pop out, but it doesn't seem to want to move. did you run your hand over it? how much of a low do you feel?

I always forget to check it out. I will try to take a closer look at it later today.

I like the gobi rack idea. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif maybe the dealerships will give discounted prices on....naa, that's just stupid http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. If the fix is long turnaround, i'm leavin it. if it's on all of em, we should get somethin other than a "sorry bout that" from gm. however, with the train wreck gm is in right now, i doubt they'd even say sorry.

I just climbed up to get a closer look and you can't even see it up close. I just look real quick but nothing.

This may be a really dumb question, but are you sure that the dent is there? If you study the pic long enough, it appears that the reflections from the tree could be creating the illusion of a dent.

It is there. The H3 in the pic is someone elses that is parked out there today. Mine is parked in another location and you see the same dent.

That's my guess as well. A number of years ago, a co-worker had what looks like a similar circular dent. I believe the explanation was that it occurred at the plant when the body panel was lifted by a jig.

yea i have the 50cal opening too. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif good thought ddwh. i've seen some sunroof processes/tooling that create odd shapes in the roof during installation. i don't think something struck it, but pushing, pulling, yankin, welding and stuff like that to ,essentially, a 4X8 sheet of steel, can create "lows" in the sheet metal. not uncommon and easy, in the process, to fix. once it's there and been painted though, theres little hope of fixing it. cept for bondo. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif someone from a body shop would know more than me though. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Apparently since I kept forgetting to tell the dealer it isn't really worth fixing to me http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
I guess I will see what they say when I have it in to check the marker lights and do the 3K service.

I find you have to be a pain in the a s s and ask alot of questions, give them information they dont know(but do it nice http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif without being a jerk) when you are at the dealer for service.
The day I picked mine up I stood on the steps and checked out the top,I dont know why I just did.
It wouldnt hurt to scan the H3's in the lot before going in.If theres any with same damage and they tell you no http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif or it couldnt come from factory that way you could bring him outside. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I think it's something inherent in manufacturing or the sunroof installation as my dent is in exactly the same place as Ma'Deuce, right at the rear door line.
Is this the same for the rest of you guys?
HummerNewbie
03-28-2006, 07:43 PM
That sounds about right to me. That is right where it is on the one I took the picture of and I believe where it is on mine. I dropped mine off late this morning to get the marker lights looked at and an oil change. I mentioned it to two of the service reps and they didn't seem to be aware of it. I was in a hurry so didn't get a chance to look at any of them on the lot. Will try to when I pick it up in a little while. I know the loaner I have doesn't have the dent but it also doesn't have a sunroof. One of the reps mentioned that they have seen the same type of thing on the rear door of H2s.
Got to stop and put gas in the loaner before returning it. I will look for you lotus since I will most likely stop right by your place.

I just scanned over 35 H3's in Rochesters Hummer Dealership and I did not see any Roof Dents on any HUmmers (H3'S). I was on the Hummer Roof with the owner of the dealership and he stated he has not had any Roof Dent issues in any of the 143 H3's the dealership has Sold. Sorry-Peter

When I picked mine up a little while ago I looked over some of the H3s they had on the lot. Was hard to tell without going around and climbing up on each one which I didn't have time for. From what I could tell, looked like about 80% of those with sunroofs had the dent but none of the ones without did. Again, it was hard to tell from the ground while the sun was starting to go down.

Not trying to imply in any way that the owner would lie about it but I would be surprised if 10% of the people that have the dents even know they are there let alone the dealer. That is cool that you were able to go on the roof and check the lot and from what you could see none had them. That is just about the only way you are going to see it. Wonder what is causing it. Like someone said, could be happening on the transporter but I think it has something to do with the sunroof and/or it's install.

I agree :-) so I have contacted the Hummer Mechanics from the shop. Since I have bought 7 Hummers in the past few years from the dealership I have had a great relationship with the Mechanics and so far no one has had any Roof Dent issues. However I sent an email to a few more friends of mine at 3 other dealerships to look for the issue. Please note that out of 35 H3'S only 11 were sunroof models. I agree that this may be a sunroof installation issue.

Let us know what you find out. This isn't something that I am ever going to worry about getting fixed but I just started to get curious when I saw another with the same dent yesterday. The only reason I noticed it on mine is because the back door I use at our office overlooks where I park. When I looked at it up close yesterday, I couldn't even see it, though it was covered in pollen http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Maybe that is why nobody seems to be noticing it. I just assumed it was just something that happened to mine until seeing that one. It is strange though.

Sounds like the sunroof installer sits his fat axx on roof while working on it.

I wonder if it's also temperature related. If the roof gets hot and wants to expand and the glass sundroof installation won't let it. Maybe on a cool day it goes away. Just a thought.

I noticed not so much a dent, as a subtle warping when it sat in the driveway, i chalked it up to the heat on the black metal, it goes away when it cools off.
