After reading previous posts about the MPG people got on their first tanks I was worried. My first tank wasn't to bad. 14.2 and that was 95% city driving.

That seems about right...

Agreed sounds about right based on my 11 month/19K miles experience with the H3.

big forum survey while back showed only 1 person averaging more than 20. consensus seemed to be around 14-16 city and highway combined driving

I had been averaging between high 12s and mid 13s with 90% or more city driving. On average the only highway miles I get is 3 miles each way to work but that hardly counts. I have done one fill up since breaking 5K miles and it was in the mid 14s. Not sure why I seem to get worse than most but I did start paying attention and usually don't go above 2,500 RPMs running around town so it isn't that I am gunning it all the time. It is getting better though.

I must be doing something wrong. I was getting 17.4 MPG on my new H3 before I took it to a muffler shop. I had just put in a tank of gas, stopped by the shop and had a FlowMaster muffler installed. they left in the front restrictor and put in a replacement in the rear. the first thing I noticed was the tach does not go as high as it used to and the sound was a little deeper. Plus, there is a noted better pick up when the accelerator is punched. I will be filling up again in a day or so and then I'll see if my MPG has gone up or down.

Last tank with about 85% city driving, I got 14.3 mpg. Lowest I've seen is 14.2

I estimate 95 percent of my driving is highway and I've been pretty consistant at 19.6 mpg. Now that doese go down if I add offroad or start running around town.

Your highway driving makes a huge difference. Filled up Saturday morning, drove to Ocala, wheeled until mid afternoon then drove back. Drove around town no highway for the next 3 days and my mileage still just 2.5 - 3 MPG over the average even with the half day of wheeling :)
