H3 and Snow?

Hey, I am thinking about getting a H3 in the coming months. I am probably (hopefully) moving to Colorado in the next few years. How is the H3 in snow? I love driving in snow, and believe it or not, got a good bit of practice in the mountain of NC. So for those who have driven it in snow and mountains quite a bit, does it handle it well, any problems? Right now I am driving an older Taco which is great in snow as long as there is some weight in the back.

Well, I can't speak for how old Taco's handle in the snow but i can't possibly handle it very well. :)

I have driven my H3 in the snow a couple of times. It handles very well. One time was on he highway in a heavy snow storm and didn't even have a need to lock the hubs. The other time was local and drove through an empty parking lot where it was up to the bottom of the doors. I was very impressed and I don't even have the Adventure package with the rear locker.

Yeah, anything is better than getting out and manually locking the hubs, as I still have to do on my Toyota. Well hopefully I can find one in the next few months as the 07's come out. I am looking for Adventure Package with sunroof, colors either the green, white, or black. I have GM employee pricing through a friend, so hopefully I can get everything together.

The H3 does a good job. I've found though that if I'm in a hurry, I have better control when I shut off the traction control and use the throttle to steer around the slippery corners. With it on, it sometimes gets into a scary understeer situation, with it off, blip the throttle, swing the tail around and giterdone, no problem. It snowed all month long in March. We have a very steep, long driveway. No problems, ever. As you can see, I was the only guy on the roads that day. I guess my biggest complaint period with the H3 is how the rear fenderwell/door jamb is the world's most efficient mud/soil collector in the universe.

Hello Alaska :D ........I've got 2 of them if that tells you anything.

It rules in the snow, and I've yet to drive any vehicle except a hummer that didn't feel sketchy on the snow/ice.

Otherwise with 1/2 ton 4x4 trucks it's put them in high lock in October, and take them out in April. (no joke)

you should do better than the taco with the H3 in snow. Weight and clearance (unless your taco was lifted, forget about the typically super-optimistic clearance specs published by 'yota) are better on a stock H3 than a stock taco.

in my experience tires and clearance play a role, but shear weight plays the dominant role. hence a big 3/4 ton pickup with extra weight in the box can be a very formidable snow truck, even though it isn't generally a great offroading vehicle.
