I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, NO, you will definitely not get an increase of 18 hp from a K&N filter. I have added a K&N and a Corsa exhaust system and I will bet I have not increased my hp more than 5, if that much.
I have an '03 Vette that I have added K&N filters, Corsa exhaust, ported and polished throttle body, throttle body bypass, iridium plugs and mega plug wires. On a dyno, with all that I picked up 18hp.
I guess the bottom line is, with K&N filter only, you will definitely not notice any difference, maybe more sound at wot. I still like my K&N filter, hp or no hp. Congratulations on your new H3,
OJ

I think a power programmer would be your best shot. But, I'm not really sure what company's have a programmer available.

hmmmm
any one know
where i can buy CHIP for my H3??
thanx,,,
In your part of the world, the dust is an engine-killer and the K&N filter gives much less protection than the standard air filter. The added power from an aftermarket filter is insignificant. If you plan to keep the H3 for some years, keep the factory air filter to avoid premature blue smoke.

QATAR - The K&N Filter itself will not do much for horsepower but the entire aircharger kit does...
I have a spare aircharger kit for sale for $175.00 + shipping if you are interested.

You MAY want to consider this article before tossing the stock filter. http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm
I used to be a huge K&N fan but the more and more I hear, the more and more I'm not going to run one, period.

I agree 100% about oiled air filters. I've tried K&N and enjoyed the sound, but I don't think it helped much and I won't use them again.
But I just read about these AEM Brute Force dry filters. Their synthetic dry filters do as well as paper media, but allows higher airflow. Plus, you get the advantage of an intake are designed to eliminate restrictions induced by stock tubing and baffles, which is better at WOT.
They still don't make one for the I-5, but does anyone have an opinion about them?

Hey, these look promising! We switched to this filter media on our gas turbines. I didn't know anyone was making them for passenger vehicles. I think they're probably a great product.
Just looked it up, the Canyon/Colorado filter is the same as the one on our H3s. I may order one up!
