First time with the 3 off road.... suggestions? I have removed my nerf bars, disconnected my sway bars, removed my center caps, I have a good mobile tool kit (complete with new tie rod end). I am going with others that have a winch and other serious gear. Not going though too hardcore stuff- taking it easy to start. Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

Have a spotter outside of the vehicle to direct you as you go through some of the more difficult terrain. You will be glad you did. Also, work the brake and pedal together. Use the brake pedal to control the speed of the truck and not the gas. It will move more smooth through the obstacles you encounter like a big tree, etc. Also, keep your thumbs outside of the steering wheel incase the wheels whip around on you. It could break your thumbs. The hardest part is getting the smile off your face at the end of the day. :)

I wouldn't dissconnect the sway bar. Also, I haven't had any issues leaving the center caps on the wheels. Just make sure the side steps are off and the mud flaps are off. Make sure you get the rocker panel protection if you are planning to winch over stuff.

I agree with the above comments but I would take off the center caps. I mangled one on the first trip out. Have a great time.

wait? what wait? just got it three weeks ago.:D

Thanks for all the advice- I have been wheeling many times, but never with my own vehicle. very pumped to get it out there.:D

So leave the sway bars? I was always told the opposite.

lower tire pressure? if so, what psi for best results? Also I am getting clear vynil to protect the paint on the fender flares.

Don't worry about the sway bars. Sewie is right. Right now its not a big deal.

YES. Lower your tire pressure. 21-22 PSI is good for the stock Bridgestones.

Pull off the center caps. It takes 10 seconds and could save you $$$. Better safe than sorry.

Do a search on and read up on BTM. If one of the more experienced people is familiar with it have them demonstrate/explain it. Knowing BTM will make you MUCH happier.

Have fun. Be safe. Repete.

did a search on BTM... came back too many to display- what does it stand for, maybe I have already heard if it.

Very much plan on repeating.

BTM = Brake Throttle Modulation (basically two-footing it)

Old article about the H1 but it explains how it works.

Unless you're going over some serious rocks I don't reccomend you go that low in tire pressure. I suggest 26-27. It still gives you're tires alot of flex but has a bit more rigidity. I've also found it get's better traction in the dirt and mud than 20psi.

ok... here is how it looks now- and yes, that is duct tape on the fenders (under it is painters tape, I am not a moron:p ) We are not going over any wicked stuff just a few of the trails are a bit over grown so I put the protective tape on there in an attempt to avoid as many scratches as I can. Nerf bars off, center caps off, camera locked and loaded. My friend is bringing his jeep down on a trailer- hopefully it will be back on for the ride back (and not the 3):D

Cool article on BTM. I have heard some off roaders like Manual Trans. Can't do the BTM with one of those. So, what do folks like/prefer, for a transmission for off roading?

A/C on, XM radio, drive it home (no show boating trailer queens here) One thing for the GM peeps - DISENGAGE THE FREAKING AUTO DOOR LOCKS WHEN IN 4 LOW!! annoying when having a spoter jumping in and out.
