Personal emissions report
Your car emits 13,421 lbs of CO2 per year.
You should get a Utility TerraPass.
A Utility TerraPass offsets 20,000 lbs of CO2,
enough to balance one year of your driving.
Vehicle:2006 Hummer H3 4WD automatic transmission
Mileage:16 mpg (city), 19 mpg (highway)
Distance:12,000 miles per year
Fuel use:686 gallons per year
Emissions:13,421 lbs CO2 per year
Utility TerraPass

fix johnny's smoking 75 LTD and all the crap cars still on the road first.
If we had a national auto test for safety, alot of the junkers that don't even have emissions systems would help.
BS
My dad won WWII so that I could have my Hummer and burn as much fule i can buy. Why do I have to save the world?
Hope that is not too over the top.

You know what I would like to see. Someone come up with a way to filter and condense that CO2 and dump it right into a Powertank. Now that would be cool and useful.

Whatever, I used 140 gallons last week alone!
If that was alcohol consumption, it might be closer...

The report means nothing without something simular to compair it too. I need a vehicle that will get me to work in the snow, does exceptionaly well offroad, and is also a great commuting to work the rest of the year vehicle.
Here I'll help:
Avalanche 4x4
F150 4x4
FJ 4x4
Jeep Rubicon 4x4
Or better yet, add three vehicles that weight 4700 lbs, is a 4x4, and runs on a 3.5L engine.
Cough it up!!!

Too Leftist? Never! OK, I must be an anomalie. I wish I could drive a vehicle that gets 40+ mpg. But they don't seem to make them that can do everything I need.
I could buy 2 - 3 vehicles. Well, I couldn't cuz I don't have that kind of $.
I too, live in a snow capital. We get on average about 120-150 inches of snow a year. I like to go skiing in VT. Jay Peak, can get 500+ inches a year.
I need a vehicle that I can fit in. (Head room) I am in the market for a new vehicle cuz my QX4 (with sun roof) is too small (head room dept). 4 runner: too small. Most are too small. Honda Pilot (w/o sunroof) and Honda Element are great in the headroom dept. Minimum of 40.5 inches works for me. 41 is better.
Ok, once I find one I fit in, I would like one that has minimal Front wheel drive, cuz I feel it's better in the snow, but 2wd, awd, locking 4wd would be more preferable.
I also need on that can hold a 63" case with the seats folded down (and not a pickup, 'cuz the case needs to stay warm & dry. With all these desires, there aren't many options.
Perhaps I should get an H3 and a prius. But I start to think, the H3 is an off road vehicle as well and a daily driver. Folks buy it to go off roading. Should we not allow that? Should we assign evilness to snowmobiles or motorcross bikes? (just heard a story about putting catalitic (sp?) converters on lawn mowers).
And then...
what about all the other vehicles out there that are worse?
http://www.epa.gov/emissweb/suv-06.htm
It is a tough question. I would love to treat the world better and drive a truck that ran on hydrogen. But they're not out there yet. Not sure how bio diesel works in 10F weather. So, keep up the fight. I'm there with ya, but I am going to buy a truck that meets my needs and my wallet.

You may as well forget buying a second vehicle for saving gas, especially a new vehicle. It's easy to for get that it took energy (the production of which expended probably more hydrocarbons and CO2 than the vehicle will in its lifetime) to build the second vehicle. Buying a second vehicle defeats the purpose of energy conservation/reducing emissions.
Hard facts to get around, everything takes energy and (most) energy production takes fuel. Yes there is wind, wave, and solar, but again there is the energy cost of making the components and fielding them and the energy produced hasn't come close to fossil fuel. Doesn't mean we should give up, but it's still a long road. Same story for ethanol and the hydrogen economy...

Nice rebutal HummerHippy.
I believe hybrids are more hyp than a workable solution. No one seems to be asking what happens to the fuel cell when it reaches the end of it's life cycle. They are also quiet of what heavy metals the cell is made of. I think we are trading one problem with another. Landfills full of old batteries and fuel cells. And please don't talk to me about recycling. I see how little is being recycled now. The main reason big cities and the northeast is pushing to recycle is because their landfills are getting full not because of concern for the enviroment.
I've even heard the argument about recycling nuclear fuel rods for years . They failed to mention one thing. The recycling process turns the spent fuel into weapons grade nuclear fuel. Not a good idea.
Hydrogen. Up and comming and looks promising. Except the fuel milage is't there yet.
Alcohol. Again up and comming. Except because of the law you must put something in it to make it so it can not be consummed by humans. In the case of e-85 they use 15 percent gas. It also costs almost as much as gas and again the MPG is not as good. With todays tecnology you also can not switch between e-85 and petrol unless you run the tank almost dry.
I'm still waiting for a better solution.

Here's a couple more you can compare the H3 to;
Durango
Ford explorer (do they still make that one)

Nothing left about it. Just plain stupid. Any website that I open and see Gore's name proves that.
Just like the Kyoto agreement. So we agree to it, crush our economy because of it, while no one else intends to comply. Wow, pure genius.
Easy guys, easy. It was just a reference for you all to spend more hard earn dollars ;) . I drive my truck as hard as the next guy. I thought it was a cool site to waste time with at work. I don't even know what a low CO2 emission number would be vs. a high one. I liked the people behind the site (U of Penn and Wharton, the latter is very capitalistic, believe me). I like the idea behind it, it's like having someone invest your money for you but the dividends and capital gains are more esoteric.
Deserth3: You can plug those vehicles on the site and see. I'm actually not that interested in it that much not knowing, again, how much CO2 is a lot or a little.
Sewie: Hmmm. That is a cool idea. Don't mind if I check that out with the engineering professors out here...
Deita: Cool (The Lamborgini). LOL (The poster).
HummerHippy: IMHO- Get an H3. DO NOW!
442: Regular in Hobbs, NM - $2.56 WTF:mad: !

Oh; you should have said that in the first place. I don't really have an interest in what they have to say. I just get tired of people spouting facts, not giving any back ground, and then not having any viable solutions. Kind of like what you hear about global warming.

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_6.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm801YYUS) I don't look for the Sierra Club to solve any problems.
As an example, I tried a Prias driving 4000 miles/year and it still said that I should buy a TerraPass to offset the C02 that it produced.
Never mind that Prias cost a premium of $2000-3000 to buy in the first place.
I had to study the web site carefully to determine that they were not telling me to buy a hybrid.

A little bit defensive aren't we? (or I am at least). My apologies.
It's a little tiresome to continually hear negative stuff about H3 solely based on the Hummer name. H3 gets same or better mpg then my current truck, and no one has a prob;em with that one. So...

Compare a single Prius and a single H3:
More polution was created during the production of a Prius than the total emissions from an H3's tailpipe.
On the referenced web site:
http://www.terrapass.com/
If they really cared about polution... Why does the car in the background have mirrors (could be cameras instead), a big antenna (could be a internal windshield antenna), and a roof rack to increase aerodynamic drag which uses more fuel and more CO2 emissions. How about their shoe soles - they look tlike they're made from natural products. How about the dude's watch - doesn't look solar powered to me - where's he put the dead watch battery? How about the stuff in the dude's hair - was propane the propellant in the hair spray stuff?
