After my introductory "hands free minutes" I bought the "100 minutes special", just to continue my trial. So somehow if you try to end a call by any other method than punching the "phone" button on the mirror, your minutes are burning; even though the other end has hung-up, there is no more yak through the speakers, and the vehicle is turned off. It was a surprise to find I had "0" minutes. The "advisor" knew that it might have been a case of an improper disco. They know about this. One could have purchased a years worth, little Johnny or Susy or "Todd" could start the clock, leave for vacation and come back to an empty account. Crooked.
Kind a smells like Ford and their spontaneous combustrucks or their spark plug missles.
Another user billigerant device. Their On-Star site is awkward as well.:twak:

That sucks, but good info. Did they reimburse your minutes?

That sucks, but good info. Did they reimburse your minutes?I was too stunned and PO'd to think fast. I'll try E-mail from the site first. My impression is they are aware if the "defect" but don't consider it their responsibility to do anything about it. Predatory?

That sucks, the radio shouldn't turn back on until you hit the button to end, unless you had the car off before the other person hung up. Too bad there isn't a way to prove it was an improper disconnect. I'm sure if you are nice they will credit you to keep you as a customer.
I browsed the internet on my cellphone before and the data connection didn't end. I ended up with a 3000 min call on my bill! But they saw I made calls during that time so I ended up with a free month somehow. :excited:

Lightbulb click. When I communicate with them, I'll mention this forum. This isn't just one PO'd customer. That approach worked with a different vendor, I received an instant refund and apologee. They sucked it up where as previously I was getting no where.:OWNED:

What other ways are there ???
even though the other end has hung-up, there is no more yak through the speakers,
Not on mine. When the other person hangs up, my side disconnects and goes back to the radio functions.

If nothing, take this from my post, shut down hands free by using your hand to press the "phone" button.

Also watch out for Onstar fraud. My mom had a Caddy with Onstar. Some how someone jumped their signal and ran up a $1000.00 bill off their Onstar account. Onstar didn't even call them to find out about the excessive amount. They did get it straightend out, but I'd keep an eye out on your useage.

Did they jump the signal or obtain her electronic SSN and program another phone with the SSN. This is a common issue with any system that uses or can use analog. However, with pre-paid minutes, when the minutes are gone, so is the service until you pay again. But if you have one of the calling plans, the minutes are endless.
As for the minute usage, yes, you have to press the mirror button to end the conversation. I believe it is stated in the Onstar manual to press the mirror button to disconnect the call.

I have always used the mirror button, only using the one by the light switch by mistake; thinking I was turning on/off the fog lamps.
I'll PM you with a suggestion when calling Onstar...can't print it here.

This happened to me as well. I found out while driving in an area with no cell service and trying to use my OnStar when I received the "You have 0 units remaining." After multiple attempts at trying to get them to track the usage and hearing the we don't have any info about usage for calls I was transferred and told I would have to explain my situation and they might credit me. As soon as the woman picked up that I was transferred to she instantly credited me my 100 minutes back.
With the exception of the last lady I spoke with, the OnStar reps were terrible. I had one who spent 15 minutes trying to give me a fax number for them even after I explained I was doing 80 down the highway and wouldn't be writing or faxing anything to them at that point in time.

Its a design defect, clear and simple. I tried calling "time" this AM, using only the phone button on the light control panel. You can start hands free with the button on the light control panel, you cannot disconnect from same button. You can only disco using the mirror button. In this case, we Todd did is smarter than GM.
Until this is recalled, I think I deserve unlimited hands free minutes.:lame:
