View Full Version : Have no tint on windshield?
Just noticed on my 07 H3 the windshield is completely clear. It's missing that 4 inch strip of shading or tint at the top that's usually blue or grey. Has it been eliminated, or is this a reject that slipped thru the line?

All of the H3's I've seen have dark tint (including mine) .. sometimes it's hard to see who's in there. My driver and front passenger window are the same tint as the windshield (dark). The rear passenger and rear cargo windows are even darker. Are you SURE it's clear?? I know a few of states allow VERY dark tints, almost blacked-out ... (New Mexico, Nevada and Arizona).

On my 2006 (bought in TX), there appears to be tint on my front windshield. It appears to be that little strip at the top. Now, you have me wanting to go out and look.

Well, now I'm going to go have a look at my front windshield in the morning. I could swear mine has tint because often people say they can't tell if someone is inside or not. I'll look again tomorrow and report back. :D

Mine has the "eyebrow" at the top from the factory. I had the 2 front doors tinted on my own for 35.00 from some guy that came to my fire station to do it.

I don't know why, but some have it, some don't.

By NYS law, factory tint can only be placed on the Back Seat side windows, and on the Rear window; If you have two, side view mirrors. the Fronts must allow a minimum of 70% light transmittance. That ='s 30% tint. The rears can be painted black!
The front seat side windows and windshield usually have about 6% tint or 94% light Transmittance to begin with. The Strip on the top is for Sunglare and is the Only legal Factory tint on the front windows.
I can't believe that there are 50 different factory tint settings to comply with laws governing window tints. So I would suspect that the Factory looks at the most restrictive states and makes the windows based on thoses state's requirements. Then the windows will be legal in all 50 States.
I don't know if the '07 model year left the sunglare windshield tint off on purpose or not.

Do you think that your windshield may have been replaced by the dealer prior to your purchase? Maybe it was cracked or broken during shipping and replaced with a non-glare strip windshield in error? Let us know if you find out.

As the seasonal positioning of the sun seeks it's southernmost points there's more glare at sunrise and sunset. Anyway, check out the next post it's a picture from the Silver lake shots, and this one is definitely an 07. The 07's come with chrome wheels on the adv./offroad suspension pkg. The windshield strip is VERY OBVIOUS.

Maybe, check to see if you have the GM logo in the bottom passenger side of the windshield. If it was replaced I don't think it would be with factory glass, at least the dealer told me they wouldn't replace mine with factory glass if needed.
Sorry, couldn't upload photo. It's the black H3.

Colorado Tint Law Enacted: 1995
http://www.tintcenter.com/img/clear.gif
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Colorado, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield - Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows - Must allow more than 27% of light in.
Back Side Windows - Must allow more than 27% of light in.
Rear Window - Must allow more than 27% of light in.

SDH3, did you find out anything about your windshield? Have you checked for the GM logo on the front bottom corner/passenger side of the windshield? Let us know what you find out.
Yes, it is GM glass and this is the info on the bottom corner: GM Laminated GS DOT 22 ASI M55L1 Trans. 70% Min. GUARDIAN 6... D S.. , and here's a crappy phone/cam shot of the nekkid window.http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=32288&stc=1&d=1161883883

I'll have to check exactly what mine says in that bottom right side under GM. If it is the original windshield, then WHY would they have forgotten to tint the top glare strip?? After what you've posted, I look at my glare stip all of the time. :D Especially on sunny days like today! Hopefully you'll be calling your dealer soon. Did you get yours at that dealer near Hotel Row in SD? (Can't think of teh name of the dealer).
Marvin K. Brown: Hummer, Cadillac, et al. Will check with the dealer soon.

SDH3.. what was the outcome of your untinted windshield? DId that ever get resolved?
Nobody knows! The strange thing is all the 07s on the lot have the tint plus the same glass number as mine. Dealer will take care of it.
