You know, maybe that V8 isn't really such a distant possibility:
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061101/FREE/61101006/1525
The 2007 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab Z71 Plus was built to appeal to the off-road crowd. It is packing a 320-hp V-8 and a Hydra-Matic 4:65 transmission. The fenders, hood and grill are drastically restyled. The suspension has been modified with HUMMER H3 components and it has been fitted with off-road 20-inch tires.

The 5.3 v8 sounds interesting. Coming off the 3.5 and 3.7 I5 the Buick v6 4.3 would have been a nice choice.

V8 is coming in late 07 or early 08 via a GM source (no I didnt just pull this out of my behind) though it may not be the 320hp version of the 5.3. The turbo 5 plan was droped for the past year now.

You'll see this as an 2008 model from the start, If everything goes according to plan. The turbo 5 was shelved before the H3 came to market.

If you have 2 RIGHT GONADS, is the retail price on one of them the same as an average persons single right gonad? Or would it cost one with 2 right gonads, both of them to get the same V8 swap?

Let me guess, automatic tranny only, right? I would be curious about other changes to the drive line to compensate for the power as well, anything else you can offer up? Honestly still hoping GM sees the value in a nice turbo diesel with manual tranny, but I don't hold out too much hope.
Any word on when those window switche moves and child safety locks will hit the showrooms? My dealer still claims there is nothing in the pipeline for them, after talking to "Hummer Corporate" (what ever the hell that is).

Maybe they might put in a different front axle, probably stay with the same trans and t/case, probably never see a man trans with anything but a 5-cylinder.

Am I reading this right? There is a V8 coming out for the H3 in January for Model year 07'. I would have figured if there was going tp be one it would be for 08'. If this is true I will need to sell my H3 and be ready for the V8. In my mond this is too good to be true.

Yea, but some of it does...keep in mind last year GM had the "H3 Street" vehicle..which had the wheels and tire cover that appeard on the H3X. It also had the reverse camera system that showed up in the limited edition H2s (that slides out of the rearview mirror when put in reverse) and also the DVD system that they used for the holliday promotion last year...The V8 is a serious possibility.

i dont know that id want a v8. id be happy with the I-6 considering weight and gas mileage and all. If they can sqeeze about 300hp out of the 6 banger then that seems like more than enough. But thats just me. Plus all the talk about serious mods to make a V8 fit seems more likely for a 6. But i dont know anything so anything whatever comes out(or doesnt) is fine with me.

The Pathfinder with a 4.0L 270 hp V6 weighing just as much as the H3 can get 16/23 mpg and is pretty quick(0-60 in 7-8secs). Only problem is it's not an H3. I would think the H3 could get close with a new powerplant. Obviously not match it because of aerodynamics, but at least come close.
So a 6 or a V8? Which would actually be better to keep the MPG close to the same while improving acceleration and passing power?

Had mine in three times for water leaks, now I dont have the markers but I do have the off-rad lights,, first they tried gluing the seals, then they adjusted the doors,,,, then they replaced the seals,,,,,, still leek's sometimes if its really windy while its raining.

Wonder what it would take to move the switches into the new position on the older models where they're so far back?
f5fstop
11-28-2006, 12:31 AM
First of all, being TOO far back is subjective. At first, I felt they were too far back, but now after almost 20K miles, I have no problem with their location.
As for switching; it would require a complete new door panel and possible an extension for the existing wiring harness to reach the new switches.

The GM 4.3 is an inherently unbalanced motor because of its 90 degree block layout with 6 cyls, When they added the balance shaft it helped some. With 6 cyls. you want to stick with 60 degrees and 8 cyls. 90 degrees. That's why they were able to take massive horsepower out iof the 3.8 motor unlike the 4.3. The Rebel

True, the 4.3L only made 190 HP, but it was a monster with 260 ft-lbs of torque. It was a great mill for the Blazer and S10 ZR2 trucks.
