View Full Version : The joy of buying a used vehicle...

My H3 has 20K miles on it and the dealer (not a Hummer dealer) had only one key... and one non-functional keyless remote so I drove it down to the nearest Hummer dealer and bought a second key and remote for myself plus paying for programming the remotes... it was an expensive day. When I got home, neither worked... and I started getting a code for the tire pressure sensors (unrelated... just happened).
$o, back to the dealership we go today. They called later to tell me it appears the previous owner installed and removed an aftermarket alarm system and, in doing so, did something to the receiving antenna for the keyless remotes. Easy repair but not covered under warrantee.
The tire pressure sensor code was because the previous owner or someone (dealer?) put on new. larger tires which are rated at a different pressure than the originals. The computer needs to be recalibrated and they can't finish it before the end of the day so I'm stuck with their courtesy car for the night.
Long story short, they're going to put everything right but it'll cost me a couple of hour$ of labour. Then, with receipt in hand, I guess I have to go talk to the guy who sold me the H3 and see if he'll make good for the remote repair (as he said he would) or ??? Since he figured it was a dead battery in the remote, I suspect he's not going to want to ante up.

There is no computer calibration for tires period. There is a method of resetting the tpms, and that you can do yourself. It is in the manual.

Another RTFM (read the f...ing manual) situation? Damn... I looked up the code in the book but once I found it, I didn't look any further. I find manuals so annoying... poor character development, thin plot...
Thanks, HummBebe. I'll grab the book and try wading through it again...

Will that work to shut the TPM stuff off all together when putting tires and wheels on WITHOUT those fancy little pick up sensors..??
And yes.. I'm asking before I've even read that little how to... LOL
edit: Ok.. I read it... Guess it won't work to get rid of the TPS.. What does work..(in theory)

I would have the TPM'S installed on the new wheels. Your tire shop can do it for you.
Regarding the question, I don't know, it's an F5 thing.

And he's not telling. ;)
Some have said that if you remove the sensors, eventually the warnings will stop. Personally, I don't buy it, but there's only one way to find out.

Yeah I cant imagine a sensor being "smart" enough to realize the driver doesn't care anymore and stop signaling you. haha, i'll let someone else find out for me. :beerchug:

Keeping the TPS in the OEM Tires and wheels.. The 35's and the 2nd set of wheels will be the offroad/weekend set (I hope)... Of course after the novelty wears off some..
I've heard some folks say they only get the TPS errors for a few days and then it gives up and quits or something...
